I feel terrible doing this because I never leave reviews, but I had to for this one. Single worst diner I’ve ever been to. Menu was outrageously overpriced, but since it’s the UWS that’s to be expected and I thought oh well, at least the food will be good. Now I’ve been to some bad diners, but at least in those places the food was still good. Here? I hope we just caught them on a bad day because not one of us at the table had a good meal. To start, the water tasted ODD. Like not just strange tap, but like flat seltzer water when we asked for normal water? None of us could figure it out, except that maybe our glasses weren’t completely clean. The food was nowhere near worth what they were asking for it. A dry, flavorless burger that looked like it came out of a microwave. A “goat cheese” wrap that was 80% greens and 19% half-cooked mushrooms, completely tasteless with the smallest bit of goat cheese. Should have been called an arugula wrap for what you get. Someone else at our table ordered a salad that was just all greens and a couple chunks of mozzarella—didn’t even come with all the ingredients it should have according to the menu and had to ask for them. The milkshakes were extremely thin, more like just cold chocolate milk than anything. We should have taken it as a sign that the place was empty in the middle of the day on a busy street. It also smelled strongly of acetone because of the nail salon right next door—not their fault, but doesn’t put you in the mood for food. Only upside was the staff was all very nice, part of why I feel bad leaving...
Read moreThis was around 1987, but I was caught in the area during rush hour, facing over an hour to get home to Hamilton Heights. I went into this diner, which was familiar to me, and said, I only have five dollars, but I'm just not going to last until I can make it home and have dinner. Is there anything I can have? The manager told me to sit down, and he brought me a full, large bowl of beef barley soup, and followed with an oven-fresh basket of biscuits, which he did not charge me for. What floored me was that biscuits were not even on the menu. He might have even refilled my soup. I will never forget the kindness of this place. Another time I stopped in for a hamburger deluxe before I would catch the train home, now to Philadelphia. He brought me so many french fries, and a huge burger, that I was able to have another meal on the train. I just love this place. It doesn't just serve the neighborhood. I used to admire the dressed-up elderly ladies who lived upstairs and had all their meals there with their black aides,...
Read moreThe service was very good and fast. I went there during NYFF and was waiting for the next movie to start. The breakfast sausage was very good. I had the soft scrambled eggs but i probably should have ordered them differently because they were way to too soft and whatever they used to soften it removed a lot of the taste. I also had the pancakes which were very soggy. The pancakes themselves were good but i don't know what brand of maple syrup they use but am assuming it's not sugar free because I could barely take five small bites before I had to set it aside. So if you have the pancakes there and are used to sugar free maple syrup definitely check the little packs that they give you to see what the options are. Nice place but i have to remove a start because after order those three things and a large glass of orange juice my bill came up to $30. Like i understand the location and staffing cost but in no world should those four things...
