I have practiced yoga in many different studios, but Urban Asanas is in an entirely different league. Jyll has built an incredible community of devoted students who have forged powerful and meaningful connections with one another. Each time I enter the studio, it feels like a warm embraceāa safe haven that has helped me get through many challenging times in my life. I can't say enough good things about this special place.
It's hard to know where to begin when describing Jyll and her unfiltered, larger-than-life personality, along with her unofficial role as the neighborhood godmother. Beyond all the wonderfully colorful aspects of Jyll, she is a fantastic yoga teacher. Even in larger classes, you feel like you're having a private session with her. She manages to connect, observe, and assist every student in the room, ensuring everyone moves through the positions safely and adjusts accordingly. Regardless of where you are on the spectrum of yoga experience, from an absolute beginner to a seasoned yogi, there is a place for you here. Sign up and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI am a longtime member of the beloved Urban Asanas community, led with love by the inspiring and inimitable Jyll Hubbard-Salk. Impossible to put into words how much Urban Asanas means to me and others, but whenever I am out and about in Brooklyn and see a fellow student off the yoga mat, we hug and share what this special connection has meant to our bodies, minds and spirits. And on a practical note: I have been doing yoga for many years in a variety of studios, but Jyll's classes are the only ones where I have never been injured. People use the term "flow" often when it comes to yoga, but nowhere else I've been do classes literally flow as naturally and deeply as they do here. As Jyll often says, her strong personality (and, yes, off-color language lol) are not for everyone, but if you're curious, come and experience it for yourself. The yin classes, especially Super Soul Sunday, is a good...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI feel so lucky that this studio is in my neighborhood. Other yoga studios Iāve been to focus on your form. It may sound hyperbolic, but this place makes me a better person and neighbor.
Jyll, the founder & a 30-year yoga practitioner, clearly knows all there is to know about the practice, but her classes are fun and funny, never pedantic, and full of hard-won wisdom. I go to her Soul Sunday class as often as possible and notice that when I do, the following week feels lighter, more forgiving and open.
There are other great teachers here, I recommend also checkin gout Katieās community classes and power with Jitkaā¦
It breaks my heart to imagine the day, maybe in 30 years, when this studio is no longer. Itās a labor of love and a gift to the community. Please, take advantage of it...
