Before we drove to this establishment from Long Island Suffolk county, we called to verify that we might be arriving exactly 9pm or 9:05pm and want to know if they will still be open. They assured me if I make it there, they will serve me and to make sure I have what I want. I arrived exactly 8:59pm when I got there the entry way was wide open not like they are closing. I was not greeted by the person that is at the front and come to find out his name is Richie, looked like he couldnāt wait to leave. He had a bad attitude and looked and sounded very annoyed that I walked in. I saw they had trays of the one thing I wanted most and Richie didnāt want to sell me the product that they do have. I was even interested in buying the whole tray but he had a bad attitude when he got upset because he had to repeat himself. I asked him a question about the specify item and his reply was āhe already told me about it I should listen and pay attention,ā like wow really Richie. I came in here with a plan on what I wanted donāt rush me because I have to change according to you not wanting to sell something that I can see you have in the showcase. This is how you intend to keep customers because you have to simply repeat yourself Richieā¦.WOW.
Itās one thing if you wanna buy something and they donāt have it, but if they have it and they donāt want to sell it to you thatās just bad business. Terrible customer service and what I did get was even more terrible. I call back the next day to make a complaint about my experience since I drove all this way out and I ask the lady that answered to speak to a Manager, the lady replied, the manager will never want to talk to you or call you and that thereās nothing you can do about this. I didnāt ask for anything to be done.
I just want to know if this is how you treat your patronizing customers. It was my birthday and out of all the places they have, I choose to get something so simple from a roti shop, this specific establishment āTrinidad Golden Placeā and what a bad experience it was. A simple human interaction with Richie showed a lot about the people that works here and the establishment the manager donāt care what the customers have to say. Shame on you guys and shame on Richie. If youāre closing at a specific time shut it all down and close the door like a real business.
This is my review on items I bought before:
Chicken roti: might as well pay the extra and get boneless cause this should be called bone and roti. As for the roti can be a hit or miss, parts are thicker and not enough sauce for the roti thickness. Aloo can be smaller pieces.
Currant roll: best item on menu
Sponge cake: best item on menu(donāt get the last piece)
Coconut roll: so so but has lots of sweetened shredded coconut flakes
Chicken patty: not enough filling to crust ratio
Doubles: not my fav from here(try tinidelite or...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTHIS PLACE GOT A HALF STAR REVIEW FROM ME. I travel from NJ VIA BUSES, TRAINS AND SUBWAYS to go to this place for doubles and currents roll twice. I was disappointed about the currents roll because they are not available before 3:00 pm, but I bought chicken roti, goat roti, 5 roti skins, 12 doubles, 3 cassava phone, 3 khurma and 3 bread pudding. I had been a roti make for more tha 20 years in Trinidad for the Roti King - Amin's. Trinidad Golden Place quality lacked much to be desired. I got quick service, the environment looked decent. Counter staff was attentive. Kitchen staff was a joke. First time was passable, but the second time, TOTAL DISASTER. Second time around I bought 20 doubles.2 chicken roti, 2 goat roti, 10 roti skins, 6 cassava phone, 6 kurma, 2 fried rice with chow main & chicken. Nothing was any good. Kurma was soft and under fried. BBQ chicken had no BBQ sauce, just plain tasteless steam chicken.. Roti skins had very little dhal more like soda roti all around the edges with a little dhal in the middle. Pone had a lot of coconut bark. Chicken and goat roti were packed full of curry potato and very little meat all of which was a tasteless mess. Doubles had a scant little bit of channa. I asked for heavy pepper and kuchela. I got neither. I am sooo disappointed that these workers give Trinidad food a bad reputation. I bought food to share with friends. I was so ashamed when we opened up and saw the disaster that was given to me. The guy at the front counter was decent enough, he maybe the manager. He gave me a slice of black cake without charge. The first time around the items were kind of OK, but the second time; help me to make a decision of never again. I will go to Singh's Roti Shop in Queens where I usually buy Trinidad food. Really disappointed how workers can break a business by producing poor quality...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been here as much as possible since I discovered it a week or two ago. Iāve always heard the rave about rotis but never actually had one til I came here. We love the potato and boneless chicken roti and doubles w tamarind sauce the most, but i personally also love Trini chicken soup and wonton soup. Beef and bok choy was 4 stars. It came w fried rice that was too salty. Veg roti and fried shrimp wonton were also too salty. House special 3 stars. Reading the reviews, what I will try next is Trini style fried chicken, goat roti, Trini breakfast, āveg dinner,ā potato pie w shrimps, crab wonton, the Friday special Trini patties and curry crab š and currant roll. Maybe I will give the chow mein another shot separate from the house special. Staff is a surprisingly pleasant although imperfect for a no frills place. Cash only is a bummer because how much I come here I run out of it fast 𤣠also there are like no banks close enough to avoid atm transaction fees š canāt they do Venmo or something???...
