Our guide, John, was great. He was very nice and pretty funny. You could tell he really likes to give these tours and he enjoys sharing his experiences and knowledge with people. That being said, the tour was not as great. It takes 90 minutes to walk less than a mile. Mostly because the group stops often to look at "ghost" photos. One of the supposed orb photos was a picture of the moon. It was a clear night when my group went and we could clearly see the photo looked like the moon. Our guide did usually stop us where there was some light to see the photos, but it seems a bit weird to have a group of people look at dark photos at night where it's pretty hard to see. The tour was more history of Newport with a couple ghost siting stories - not even really ghost stories. They weren't scary ghost stories or tales of haunting, just some stories that people has possibly heard or seen something in one of the old buildings. The guide even said a lot of the stories he hears while researching involve people being drunk. Not the most reliable of sources. I don't think the tour is worth the price, especially when you're in a group of 30+ people looking at bogus photos half the time. At least the guide was...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have enjoyed ghost tours in four other cities....this was awful. Not worth the time or the money. Our tour guide, Holly, arrived at 8:40 (for the 8:30 tour), she then spent until 8:55 showing us photos on her cell phone of a shadow on her neck (ghost of a little boy) and reflection of her deceased ex-husband in a window. She was also very excited and distracted by three ghost hunting toys she brought along to share with the group. During the initial time, we were in Marriott Hotel between a loud bar and a restaurant....not a great start. At 8:55, when we headed out, I was glad the tour had begun. Unfortunately, it did not improve. Holly made four stops and the stories were VERY short. The first story was the longest, but even that was less than 5 minutes. At the other stops she showed some photos and talked about how everyone sees ghosts in photos at these locations, not really have any stories. She seemed to have no true knowledge of historical background linked to Newport ghosts. The tour ended at 9:50, so it took 55 minutes to tell 7 minutes of ghost stories. Do not...
Ā Ā Ā Read more7/16/22 We were DITCHED šš. I know it was unintentional, but still! It was a small group, & we are hard to miss. š
These are photos at Vernon House, the last stop before we lost the group. The guide did the entire pitch in front of it with us across the street from her. The whole tour, sheās imploring we take photos. Well, to take said photos, we had to cross the street to get closer. I snapped 3 pics & turned aroundā¦they ghosted us! š© we tried to find them. I only knew the next (& last) stop was a cemetery. She didnāt say WHICH one & there are several in walking distance. I look online, it doesnāt say. The tour is supposed to be approx 90 minutes, sheās headed to the last āsecretā stop at the 60 minute mark. Unless the cemetery is a 30 min stop (more heartbreaking if thatās true) why not give 20 seconds to take a pic?
Ultimately, FAB tour & guide. But, I left a fancy dinner early just to go on it. Clarification: I gave up having a second lobster for this. š Disappointed I missed a nighttime cemetery visitā¦I wish she turned around for a second to notice. Would have...
