INTENTIONALLY DECEPTIVE AND MISLEADING--ALL TO LAND A SALE! Today marks one month since placing an order for two Twin Xl Mattresses totaling $5,327.87. I was apprehensive about dealing with Purple Mattresses because of how many bad reviews there were regarding customer service and delivery times, which I brought up to the sales women at the Purple office in Alpine when I was deciding on whether or not to make the purchase.
The sales women assured me those reviews were a result of a bad delivery partner they were using at the time and they have since changed partners and everything is back on track. She said, "you will be contacted within 1-2 weeks for delivery, but it will likely be much sooner since you are local. I had one customer get his within three days."
I also received an email after the purchase stating the exact same thing “If you selected white glove delivery, our in-home delivery partner will contact you via email within 1-2 weeks to schedule a 4 hour window for your in home set up.”
Within 3 days from the first order confirmation email, I received a second email that said, “due to the overwhelming demand we had over our labor dale sale, we’re a little delayed in getting them all out. There’s an additional 7-day waiting time for your mattress to be delivered.”
If the labor day sale was the day before I purchased my mattress, and it was such a wildly successful sale, was it not possible to inform me of this at time of purchase that there may be a delay? Well the two week period plus the seven-day delay had come and passed with no word, so I call in now at the 22 day mark. The call-center rep tells me that if I don’t here back within another 7 days to call back in.
Another 7 days had come and passed, now 30 days in, and still no word. So I call in again, and I am told on the phone it will be at least another 7 days. Unbelievable! I canceled my order. If this is the service you get on the front end, when the order isn’t final, imagine trying to handle a problem or return with a used mattress.
Purple, service first sales second, not the reverse. Why on earth is a customer willing to spend premium pricing of $5k on a mattress when there are a thousand $400-$800 options available? Because they expect premium service and are addressing a significant pain point that needs to be solved immediately, like back pain. My wife and I’ve had a purple mattress for years and really loved ours and likely to get one again In a year or two when ours is needing to be replaced. I had the original purple pillow before as well and made the mistake of selling it as I’ve had several other brands since then that have not quite given the same and fuzzies, in terms of the purple comfort and support I need for my migraines. Since then, the harmony has come out and that seems super comfy, and one likely looking I to for my wife who enjoyed the softer more traditional support and feel she will love. One gentle critique I will give of the store though Is literally as I am buying the original OG $250 pillow a salesman across the store is loudly telling another customer how awful the pillow is but the other ones they sell are way better probably ignorant of the fact that I am literally buying it (I think my salesman was probably mortified lol). I feel either he or the customer toned it down a little bit that it’s an “acquired taste” which I get because I am definitely one who needs more support and firmness than the average Joe due to my more or less chronic migraines and with it being a 10 pound pillow and relatively $$$ it’s not everone’s cup of tea …but I’ve heard amazing things about it from those who are still using theirs with similar health conditions. I figured I would deduct just one rather than a couple stars because the sales guy did seem pleasant and seemed just trying to help the client and I do like honesty but also is important to consider other customers who may be considering/buying/using the product that they are downing/representing. From my initial purchase of the Purple sitting pillow, which when received since I was just so small and bony it did not work for me and I had to return it. No hassle in the return process and they could not be more accommodating. Many companies treat you well for you to buy, but when you need to return you are treated as a second class citizen. When I tell you they treated me and spent the time to hear my issues. What a team and their Philosophy to donate rather than return is a great concept. So when it came to buying a new mattress Because I could not deal with our tempurpedic mattress any longer, I was waking up with back pain and sciatica pain every morning time to replace the mattress. After days and days of R & D on internet and you tube, everyone raved and the reviews were in; I needed a softer to Medium Firm Mattress and with the new choices that Purple offers on the firmness spectrum; my husband and I settled for the Purple 2 and if you want comfort and pressure point relief Purple is for you. This technology hands down beats any of the other competition.
