Against my better judgement,I decided to give this place a try today and unfortunately it was even worse than I anticipated.
The lunch pricing for the buffet doesn't exist for the weekend (which I don't recall having seen on their website but admit I may have overlooked it), so that was strike one.
My first sushi rolls came out very quickly, but the fish (yellowtail, one of my all-time favorites) had almost no flavor and was supremely disappointing.
All the nigiri and sashimi is out in the buffet, and as you'd expect in a buffet looked discolored and sad and tasted that way also. They add spicy sauce on top of a lot of the nigiri and sashimi which traditionally would not, which ends up being about the only flavor you can taste which defeats the point entirely. You also have to add your own eel sauce to everything that would normally come with it in this section for some reason, while simultaneously adding either mayo or their house creamy sauce to them... utterly inexplicable.
This restaurant tried way to hard to "make it their own," so much so that nearly every traditional sushi you're familiar with has been altered in some way to "set it apart," and not for the better in my opinion on anything I tried. They seem obsessed with making almost everything on the menu with spicy sauce or spicy mayo, likely to cover up the fact that everything else they use is poor quality and has little to no flavor.
There's also a section of non-sushi items, a fair chunk of which were Chinese food items, and sadly, the honey walnut shrimp from this section was the best out of everything I tried today.
Our server was very polite and pleasant, but didn't check on us often and forgot to put in one of our orders of rolls, leaving us sitting and waiting for an unreasonable amount of time.
It was uncomfortably warm in the restaurant too; even my well fit, gym-loving friends were getting sweaty and felt it was too warm.
The bill for 2 people pre-tip was $72, and not remotely worth it in either my, or my husband's (who loves spicy stuff) opinions. That's a hefty bill for a good meal, let alone a sad and depressing one. Definitely do not recommend, so sad that Sushi House in American...
Read moreGreat sushi, great buffet! We decided to stop by and check this place out for date night. For a Friday night, even as busy as they were, we got right in without a reservation or a wait. They're very efficient with their space and can fit a lot more people in there than you'd think! The decor was great and the booths felt really private even though they weren't totally private. There were a lot of families there during our time, and there is definitely something for everyone.
The buffet has a regular or premium price. We chose to do the regular buffet. The premium buffet includes 1 of 4 premium entrees (wagyu beef, lobster tail, and 2 other sashimi options). All sodas and milk teas are included in the price, as well as specialty sushi rolls and desserts. The buffet had a lot to offer. Lots of different sushi options, Japanese curry, miso soup, and more! We got mango milk tea and honeydew milk tea. The honeydew milk tea was amazing!
We also ordered some specialty sushi rolls. We got the A Roll, the Tropical roll, and the Sweetheart roll. The Tropical roll was fantastic! It had a great mix of jalapeño, cilantro, habanero, and citrus. It was so good, we ordered it twice!
The restrooms are tucked away out of sight down a hall on the edge of the restaurant. The women's restroom was very clean. They even had little disposable cups and mouthwash, Kleenex, and feminine products if needed. On the counter next to the sink I've never seen something like that offered in a restaurant in this area - let alone a buffet!
It was a little more expensive than we usually spend going out to eat, but the little touches in the decor, the awesome service from the staff, and the quality of food - specialty rolls and in the buffet - made it worth...
Read moreWe went to a birthday lunch and thought we would try the buffet.
First of all, I'll say that the server was great and the atmosphere was nice. Their menu items looked intriguing, so we tried 3 new rolls. Unfortunately, we didn't love 2 of them and disliked 1. But the problem is that you are threatened to be charged if you leave any, so we had to power through them. We left full, but not satisfied. I think this is best suited for large groups where you can try bits of different rolls, but it is definitely not a value for individuals or couples. Oh well, we tried it, and I wish them success.
After the owner's response, I raised it a star. I appreciated your willingness to listen to your customers. Here are some suggestions:
I don't know if this would be possible, but perhaps you could have sampler plates, which would include a couple pieces from 5 or 6 rolls. Being all-you-can-eat, I really wanted to try many of the intriguing rolls you had listed, but it is easy to get full on a single roll for a person.
I know you don't want to encourage wasted food, but I wasn't clear about not being charged for left-overs. It would be nice if it was stated somewhere. In places like Las Vegas, they will charge you if you don't eat everything, so I assumed it was the same.
If the above was implemented, I would raise the review to a 5 (just on principle), and give you another chance. I really want to find my favorite roll...
