Casual dining Thai restaurants with the same collection of curries and plates practically line the major roadways. Sometimes it's hard to tell them apart. Golden Thai definitely ups the ante. The wife had her standard dish to test the waters. The most popular dish around Massaman Curry. The sauce was more unctuous. The flavors a bit deeper. I had the Pad Nam Prik Phow. It's my go to dish to see if they can keep the sugar down and the spice up. They did a pretty good job of it. I had the spice level 8. It matches pretty close to an 8 at other places around town. I'll need to kick it up a bit next time to see if they keep the balance working. The veg was al dente. The sauce pretty balanced. We had the lunch special. Another time, we'll do the full entrees. Like many other places, you get a pot sticker/dumpling with the meal. Unlike other places, it's nicely fried and completely filled with nice filling. It is significantly better than any other place around town. The wife got some green tea. Surprisingly, it was a tea bag in a styrofoam cup. It came with a glass of ice in case it needed cooling. It wasn't all that hot to start with. Not hot enough to properly brew the tea -- if it was actual leaves and not a bag. They are trying to walk into better than casual dining. You can make a reservations through the website. That could be real handy. I'm still deciding if it's as good as it gets, but it's pretty close. We'll see what happens. One thing that's happening at this time is an awful lot of people are filing their first or second review ever and gushing a little too much. When there's 25 not recommended and only 2 recommended reviews, that usually means a place being a little too aggressive suggesting they give good reviews. That said Yelp was never mentioned while I was there, and we spent a reasonable amount of time talking to one of the family that owns the place. Whatever the reason, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. None of that changes that everything else was...
Read moreI'm not sure how the reviews are so good. The food gets 4 stars, the service gets 2. Came on a Friday night for takeout, the restaurant was half full, several empty tables with dirty dishes on them. She said takeout would be 25-30 minutes, it was a solid hour. We asked about vegetarian options and she only suggested the simple vegetable stir-fry. So we talked a little more and she couldn't even tell us if the Tom yum or the Tom kha were vegetarian broths. When we finally we're able to order, we ordered (all with tofu) the drunken noodles (9.99), the golden thai Curry (10.99), and pad cashew (9.99), with a mango sticky rice (5.99) for dessert. Ordering was complicated and she had us going back and forth in the restaurant, so when we did finally order I'm not sure we knew what we got. When she did, it was $50+, and we only realized on the way home she overcharged us by at least $10. We were able to get that fixed after calling them. After leaving and coming back 30 minutes later as she suggested and waited without anyone coming to the front for at least 10 minutes (same tables still with dirty dishes on them), she finally popped her head out and was surprised to see us. Sure then searched for our food. Thirty minutes later she came out with it and we brought it home. As for the dishes, the curry was surprisingly good but mostly sauce, the noodles pretty good but underseasoned, the pad cashew was sweet with few cashews but the veggies were fresh. As a lover of mango sticky rice, I was sad. Underripe mango and a super thin slab of rice. My husband called it sticky rice leather. So, I'm sounding pretty negative, I know and I hate that, but I am simply making sure you have enough info to not make the same mistake we did and trust all the amazing reviews. It's decent food, but not the best ever like the reviews might lead you to believe. And if you have time constraints, don't trust their...
Read moreThe food was pretty good. My husband ordered the drunken noodles, I got the green curry and my boys ordered the chicken fried rice and the kids sweet and sour chicken. My husband really liked his food. I've ordered green curry a lot! At a lot of different places. It was okay in my opinion. Wasn't super flavorful and I personally like more veggies in mine. The one they served me was really soupy. When I was ordering and asked if she could add broccoli and eggplant she seemed annoyed. My oldest son loved his fried rice and my 7 year old ate the chicken and some of the rice and peppers, but he doesn't really like peppers and onions. I think it's funny they load a kids meal with tons of pepper and onions. I mean there was like 1 parts chicken to 2 parts onions and peppers. So he was still hungry and I had to order him something else. I don't think many kids like peppers and onions. But, I could be wrong. The service was not very good. The woman that was helping us was nice some of the time, but got annoyed very easily. I think she was overwhelmed. I didn't see any other servers, so I think she was the only one seating and serving. It was really hard to get her attention the one time I tried. It was like she was ignoring me, so I had to get out of my seat and go to the front desk where I knew she could see and hear me. When we were leaving I ordered some spring rolls to go for my oldest son and she was annoyed again. Like she was really annoyed. It showed in her face and tone. She said they had a lot of orders ahead of me and it would be a wait, which I was okay with and expected. I don't remember her ever checking on us and she didn't refill our water until asked. But if you don't make any alterations, order more food after yours has been served and don't mind slow service you...
