My wife and I walked into the store this past Saturday. We were barely a few feet in the store. At the very entrance of the store. When a woman, who seemed to be the shop owner started yelling at my wife. She was yelling at her to put her cup down on the table. We were each holding a drink, she wasn’t yelling at me, but she was yelling at my wife, who wasn’t even clocking that this lady was yelling at her. She was just taking the store in. Then suddenly everyone in the store is looking at my wife as she realizes this lady is yelling at her. The lady is yelling that there’s a sign on the table to put your cups down before coming in. Well, first of all, we can’t see the sign because there’s cups on top of it, covering the sign. Secondly, we haven’t even walked past the table of cups/sign. We are a mere couple feet inside the store. And this lady / shop owner is yelling at my wife who happens to be the only person of color in the store. Everyone is looking at my wife because this shop owner can’t talk like a normal adult. We’re not children. We’re upper 30’s, lower 40’s. We don’t look like children. I’m not saying this lady / shop owner is racist, but it definitely came off that way as she was yelling at my wife, the black woman, and not me, the white man. Again we were just steps inside the store, still in front of the table of cups, taking the store in. My wife left crying, and it was her birthday of all days. Skip this store, especially if you’re a person of color and don’t want to be singled out. Even if the race thing was a “coincidence”, we’re adults, not screaming children, who had barely stepped inside your store, and cannot see your sign covered in cups. Oh yeah, this lady / shop owner isn’t across the room, she’s probably 8 feet away from us. No excuse for behaving like this. WILL...
Read moreI walked in when it was very busy. Side stepped it over to where the small movie posters were located and found several my wife would like. Took video of the posters and texted them to her, asking which one she’d like me to buy. Apparently this was a big big no-no. The older blonde lady from behind the counter went berserk on me. I explained what I was doing so that I could buy the right posters. It didn’t phase her. Luckily, part of my job is dealing with mental people in crisis and I knew how to handle it. Even weirder, once the people cleared out of the store I looked up and saw about five large signs that read “no photos, no videos”. It seemed aknots every rack had a sign on it. There were even little signs on the smaller areas. SMH.
I could’ve walked out but I was thick skinned about the incident and let it roll off my shoulder. So, I continued to shop. I noticed prices were over the top but i knew id find something I really liked and it would be in good shape. The lady calmed down once she saw I was really going to buy something and she was helpful with me and other customers.
During checkout, I asked what was up with the signs and she said that “Dave” doesn’t want photos of his products sent out because someone would come steal them. Which was odd because she confirmed that they have an online store where product can be seen by everyone. And really, there didn’t seem to be anything in the store worth more than a few hundred dollars. So, I dunno. I think Dave...
Read moreI was visiting other shops nearby and thought I'd stop in to shop for records since it is a pastime I enjoy. I immediately liked the shop as it reminded me of the cool record store I'd frequent in the 80's as a teenager. Not only are there records, but CD's, movies, posters, cool postcards and other music memorabilia. The prices of the records I looked at were between $25 - $35, a bit higher than I'm used to paying. Being that I'm an Elite Yelper I got my phone out to take a picture of the store but that move caught the eye of the sales guy behind the counter who leered at me, but said nothing. As I walked in further I noticed 3 glaring signs that said NO PICTURES, NO STREAMING. Out of respect for their wishes, I deleted my picture. But it makes me wonder what is so terrible about people giving them free promotion? I felt watched after that and just felt unmotivated to make a purchase. 4 stars for a good selection of...
