Great place to live in terms of quality of the building, the units and facilities. Has a nice small gym with some machines and free weights. I lived there for almost two years and it was close to the subway to get to work and convenient walk to center city. Hardwood floors, very updated appliances and cabinets and we had a great corner apartment that overlooked broad street. Initially, we had a great building manager who was very responsive and was quick to answer any questions that I had. He showed his face all the time and stopped by and said hello often when I walked through the lobby. About 6 or more months ago that manager left and a new manager arrived. The new manager is not the best. She doesn't respond to voicemails, calls, texts or emails unless you badger her multiple times. When I was moving out I tried to set up our move out inspection for weeks and she never responded. We ended up leaving our keys in our apartment. This was three weeks ago and I STILL haven't heard from her. Called her multiple times about it too. She is terrible at communicating with anyone, so if you need something or have a question she is not reliable at all. The other problem with Southstar is they jacked the rent up so high that it caused us to leave. I know its a location on broad street so the rent will be high, but they increased it so much after we renewed once we couldn't afford to stay. And this was during COVID-19 epidemic where people were losing jobs and they didn't seem to care that some people were struggling. They still increased our rent by $200 per month, which was not feasible for us. Overall, the facilities are really nice, it was a great place to live, however do not set the bar too high with communication with the...

Once when I was on vacation a maintenance guy let himself into my unit to change a smoke detector in my guest bedroom and locked my cat in there for 4 days before I returned. Building did nothing
They give no warnings on window cleaning or construction and if they do the days are often wrong so you cant plan out your day. For example once they failed to give us notice they were painting the front doors and we had to keep them open for 6 hours straight
The elevators often shut down and don't work
The actual property ownership group - air communities - is a joke. Myself, my mortgage broker and lawyer reached out a total of 10 times for information and heard nothing back. Fast forward a couple weeks and I get a bill with an extra $6k on it because I "failed to give notice to vacate" and had to send over "proof" that I reached out. Once I sent over the "proof" they changed the bill and never took ownership.
My experience here was worth sharing to save anyone from running into the headaches I did. Renting here traumatized me so much I literally bought a house to get away from renting.
If you have the choice look at 1001 on Broad and Washington - way better amenities and management!
BTW: Susans reply is bull and all times we had construction happening we were given wrong dates, no heads up was given on the smoke detector incident. Would've sued but legal fees are just not worth the headache anymore - truly hopes this helps someone from experiencing the horror that is...
Read moreThis has been one of the craziest rental experience my husband and I have had in a long time. We rented a 2 bed room apartment on the 1st floor on the corner of south and broad street.
First of all, the noise is atrocious. The fire department is 2 buildings away and at all times of day and night I can hear the fire truck sirens 🚨 and I could barely get any sleep the entire time we were there. That combined with the red flashing light right into the living room. There is a smoke shop right across the street. On most nights, especially weekends you can smell weed right in the living room. Plus you can hear the screams and laughs of drunk people from the 1st floor. If all this isn’t bad enough, we had a flood situation. For about a month, the kitchen sink collected water from the pipe and flooded the sink with black water from the sink drainage pipe. It has a horrible odor to it . What maintenance told us was that the lower floor suffers this when there’s overwhelming water from the top floors. This was NOT acceptable. It got soo bad I couldn’t use the kitchen sink for several weeks. Then one day, the kitchen sink overflew and flooded the living room. Apparently this happened to the apartment next door as well. It caused a lot of hardships and they had fans running in our living room for almost 10 days to avoid damage to the wood. It was horrendous!
Also there was 2 fire alarm situation. One when we were home and the other when we weren’t. It was scary how it happened in close proximity to each other.
In summary, stay away from...
