Just wanted to give this place a huge shout out! I’ve been in there many times but never bought anything. I’m fairly new to hiking/backpacking. Over the last year I’ve been really getting more into it. I went in yesterday with a plan for new hiking shoes and my first real day hike pack. After researching for a few weeks I knew which brand of pack I wanted but still wasn’t sure about the shoes. Austin was an absolute gem of a person! She was so kind to me! Made me feel right at home and helped me pick an amazing pair shoes that I can’t wait to take out tomorrow. I WISH I could remember the gentleman’s name who helped me with my pack. I’m pretty sure he’s hiked the AT if I remember correctly. He listened to all my concerns and wants and I got the brand of pack I wanted with his utmost confidence. I’m so happy I went back again and decided to buy there. I’ll definitely be going back for more supplies the more experienced I become. I believe most will agree that in a specialized retail environment people make the company. I found great value in the staff of this store due to their product knowledge, their life experience which added depth and insight into activities for which the products were designed, their training, and the team approach and daily "in-service" training approach utilized by REI. Special thanks to Ken and Sam for their invaluable insights and assistance in finding a proper back pack, hydration system, rain pants, cold weather knit cap, and trail food. Staff also were very helpful finding an excellent pair of hiking boots and socks. These purchases have already proven their suitability to my needs in the Smoky Mountain National Park, and I expect they will continue to establish their value next month in the Grand Canyon National Park, then hiking in Scotland later in the fall.
