I'm saddened to be leaving a negative review given the beauty of the building, but in dealing with Greystar / The Pennsylvanian's highly unprofessional and inhumane management team, I felt compelled to share my experience in the event it helps spare others from making the same mistake of applying.
The Pennsylvanian is a BEAUTIFUL building. The event space looks lovely. I was so intrigued after my tour, I quickly applied and was eager to move in 1.5 months later. The application fee was $300, which I thought was quite high in comparison to other apartments I had previously applied for. The long and short of this review is that due to unforeseen and unfortunate personal circumstances, I was ultimately unable to move into this unit at the time of year I had hoped to. I had given a full month's notice of this (literally sent the news
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTLDR: If you don't want strangers to unlock the door and secretly enter your apartment while you are not at home, DON'T MOVE INTO THIS APARTMENT. I am not joking. The management people from Greystar don't give a damn about your privacy and security.
What happened: This June, a significant water leak occurred from the bathroom ceiling, so I submitted a service ticket to the management company. About three days later, around midnight, a janitor knocked on my door for repairs. It seemed that the issue was with the air conditioner, so he only sealed the leakage with tape and left without fixing the water-damaged ceiling and wallpaper. At this point, I thought it's very inappropriate for them to come for repairs at midnight, but since the water leak had stopped, I didn't complain. The service ticket was then left untouched for over a month. One day, I got home from work and noticed that some of my stuff in my apartment had been moved from their original places. It was very creepy, so the next day, I went to the management office to ask about it, and I found out that one of the staff had unlocked the door and entered my apartment while I was at work and repaired the air conditioner. Of course, there was no prior notice, nor was there any follow-up communication about the repair. The fact that they had secretly entered my apartment without my consensus was very disgusting and upsetting, so I expressed my concern about privacy and security, and they said that this would never happen again. Then, they closed the service ticket even though they hadn't actually repaired the damaged ceiling and wallpaper this time either. About two months later, I received a review request regarding the handling of the service ticket from Kingsley Associates, the parent company of Greystar. So I submitted a complaint about how the management staff had entered my apartment without permission and the service ticket had been closed without fixing the damaged ceiling and wallpaper. A few days after that, as I am writing this now, I got home from work and couldn't believe my eyes. I discovered numerous unfamiliar footprints, and the repaired ceiling and wallpaper in the bathroom. Of course, there was no prior or post notice about entering my apartment. I didn't even submit a service ticket this time. In what kind of apartment, do I have to constantly worry about someone unlocking the door and being in my place without me knowing? This is purely absurd.
I'll say it again: If you don't want some strangers to unlock the door and freely enter your apartment while you're not at home, DO NOT RENT THIS APARTMENT. If you do choose to move in here, be sure to log off from your computer, hide your personal belongings and confidential information, and take any precautions before going outside to ensure that strangers entering your apartment won't cause any problems for you.
Update: Apparently, the janitor who entered my apartment last...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHonestly, I want to love this place, but there have just been too many issues to give a fully positive review. I'll admit that the building itself is beautiful, and it's in a great location in the downtown area. I moved into a newly remodeled one bedroom apartment last August. Over the course of the year, I had 5 leaks occur with a ruptured hot water tank, leaking AC drainage line, bath tub spout behind wall, and toilet seal. It took days for the hot water tank to be fixed, even though it was flowing mass amounts of water into the wall & raising my electric bill. My bathroom ceiling was left damaged, and rust stains were splattered all over the tile flooring. I had to scrub it clean after work. I get that issues do happen, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt hoping that they'd improve. There was also a huge water link break that damaged seven floors of the building (this tells me that there's possibly a plumbing issue). Fast forward to now (August 2020), I decided to give the property another chance and transferred into a larger one bedroom. Upon move in to the new unit, my kitchen sink was leaking all over the counter and to the underneath of the cabinet, the drains are emitting a strong sewage gas odor, the AC was malfunctioning (fixed), and the pressure valve on my water line was/still is leaking. I had to put in multiple work orders for the same issues several times. Maintenance tends to pop quickly with some quick fix that never seems to work, then seem irritated when you have to call them back to fix it again. I live and work for home a majority of the time, so this place is not only my work place but my sanctuary to relax after my work day. The added stress is not needed. I will say that Katie and Laura have always been pleasant to work with, and I don't place the blame on them for any of the maintenance issues. I'm really hoping they work to improve, because I love my apartment and the views. I'm just frustrated with the professionalism from management and the maintenance staff when it comes to addressing issues correctly the first time. I'll come back to update my experience within the next few months. Here's to hoping...
