It’s rare for me to give a 5-star rating, especially to a chain where I’ve had a 1-star experience at another location—specifically the Lake Orion Menards—on the same day. However, this store completely turned my experience around and helped resolve my needs with outstanding customer service. The team here truly understands what it means to serve their customers and build a brand that the community respects and values.
Angela, the assistant manager, went above and beyond to assist me at 9:40 PM on a Tuesday. Her professionalism and leadership were evident, and it’s clear her team respects her because of how she conducts herself. The head cashier was also incredible, and both of these ladies made such a positive impression that I will gladly return to this location knowing I’ll receive respectful and helpful service.
The store layout does present challenges—it’s spread across two levels, with ductwork (which I frequently shop for) located on the upper floor. However, the exceptional service more than made up for this inconvenience. While a few aisles needed some attention in terms of organization and inventory, I completely understand, given it’s just two weeks after Christmas.
Angela also kindly explained the store’s dog policy, which varies by location. Unlike Lake Orion, this location allowed my highly trained Boston Terrier, who quietly sat in place as instructed. This thoughtful accommodation enabled me to purchase $300 of the $450 in ductwork I needed for our $300,000, 2,000-square-foot lower-level remodel.
By contrast, the Lake Orion Menards claimed state law prohibited dogs but allowed service animals—a policy I believe was misrepresented. As someone who frequently trains hunting breeds and travels with dogs between properties, I prioritize shopping at dog-friendly stores. Unfortunately, Lake Orion’s dismissive attitude reminded me of the iconic “Pretty Woman” moment when Julia Roberts inquired if sales staff worked on commission, only to leave with a pointed “Big mistake.”
In this case, Lake Orion Menards missed out. Meanwhile, Bloomfield Menards demonstrated the level of service that earns my loyalty. The parking lot clean up person help load my car which was really appreciated! They are clearly the better location, and I will happily bring my business here...
Read moreHi Everyone. I wanted to let you know about our latest experience with Menards in Bloomfield Hills. My wife and I ordered a mattress from Menards on September 1st. Ship date was September 16th. We called late in the day on the 16th and spoke to Steven (Manager). He told us it may come in on a truck later that evening. We called on the 17th (morning) and Steven said it still hadn't arrived, and he would check with the vendor and call us back. We never heard back from him so we called three more times in the afternoon, and evening speaking with Drew and Margaret who said that it hadn't arrived yet and they had no way of checking where it was. On the 18th, we called back and was told that Steven was in a meeting and unable to speak with us. They took our name and number and said he would call us. We called back at lunch and was transferred to Susan from housewares. She said it hasn't arrived yet, and that she would send out for an email or an update from the vendor. I asked to speak with Steven, and then she immediately said that she just received word back and it would be shipped on the 26th. I'm not sure how many other people have ever ordered a mattress from Menards in Bloomfield Hills, but our experience was HORRIBLE! From their displays, we thought they sold loads of them. I'm not sure if it is their vendor, their procedures or untrained employees making it so they can't track a mattress. We tried to move away from Costco for ordering mattresses to try some other place but after this experience, we are going back to Costco.....or any other place. I wrote our experience here to let you know what you might run into when ordering from them. Hopefully, this review will save you some frustration if you know what might be coming. Good luck to you and have...
Read moreNice store that we always take our time "exploring" while shopping & spending $ because our kids really love it. My one complaint is the strange "security guards" that Menards employs. We've literally spent over $4,000 (yes four thousand) at this store over the last few years & it never fails that I find my wife, kids, & myself being followed & stared down by goofy/rough looking security personnel (They wear security hats & outfits) The first couple times I thought it was my imagination but after multiple instances, including today, I know it's not. My advice to the management of this store is to reevaluate/retrain your security guards. Maybe I'm on their radar as a shoplifter? Maybe I just give off that vibe...but when my kids shoes & clothes cost more than our cart full of merchandise maybe that's a sign that we aren't shoplifters? When I'm looking the scruffy looking security guys directly in their eyes, maybe they'd get a clue? Seriously how much $ are you people spending on these guys? MANAGEMENT: Reach out to me & I'll give them some basic training on how to profile correctly or I might even take over & manage the security detail all together if the $ is right. Seriously though, you need to reevaluate this aspect of your business, because it's odd...
