Oregon Portland đŸŒș Must-Try Viral Food Spots in Portland The City of Roses A charming, artsy, and trendy little city 1âƒŁïž Salt & Straw 🍹 Ice Cream (Photos 1-3) This viral ice cream shop is super popular locally, with unique flavors like Pear + Blue Cheese, Double Vanilla, and Honey Lavender (so good 😋). The most famous is the Sea Salt & Caramel Ribbon—sweet, salty, and rich, though it can get a bit heavy. You can sample any flavor for free, and the staff are super friendly and easy on the eyes 😉. In May, they offer a limited-edition Flowers Menu đŸŒș made with local organic flower nectar—refreshing and light! I tried the Roasted Strawberry Coconut đŸ“đŸ„„â€”tangy and not too sweet. Around $4 per scoop, and they also sell souvenir T-shirts. Adorable spot! 🌝 Location: Salt & Straw, 838 NW 23rd Ave, Portland, OR 97210 (this street is full of cute shops and eateries—very artsy, and don’t miss 21st Ave next door). They also have multiple locations. 2âƒŁïž Voodoo Donuts đŸ© (Photos 4-6) A super popular doughnut shop with quirky witchy decor—so cute! ⚠ Cash only, but there’s an ATM inside. Doughnuts cost $1–$3, and the pink box is Insta-worthy. I got the Voodoo Doll and The Homer—taste-wise, they’re pretty standard, but the designs are creative and totally Instagrammable! Two Korean girls next to me kept raving, “So delicious!” but
well, these are calorie bombs, ladies—buy at your own risk 😉. Still, a must-visit for the ‘gram. Location: Voodoo Doughnut, 22 SW 3rd Ave, Portland, OR (near Chinatown ⛩, across from the viral “WEIRD” wall). 3âƒŁïž Nong’s Khao Man Gai (Food Truck) (Photos 7-9) Portland is the birthplace of food trucks—gotta hit up a food truck plaza! This spot is famous for its Hainanese chicken rice—chicken + rice (Khao Man Gai, $11). Never had the authentic version, but this was pretty good! The chicken and rice come wrapped in paper, with a bowl of wintermelon soup and a side of sauce. The rice is fragrant and infused with chicken flavor, while the meat is a bit plain but tasty with the sauce. Solid rec! Location: Nong’s Khao Man Gai, 1003 SW Alder St, Portland, OR (hours are flexible lol, but there are tons of other food trucks nearby 😁). #Portland #Foodie #Travel #IceCream #Doughnuts #FoodTrucks #CityOfRoses #MustTry #InstaFood

I have never been so disappointed with the service at this location as much as I was today. My fiancé and I arrived at 10:30 pm for ice cream. We knew the doors closed at 11 pm. We waited in line half hour and got a few customers away from the counter when the manager came out to say that her employees had been working for 7 hours and that she was gong to cut off the line and send everyone else home. What? You made us wait in line for half hour for nothing? Do you close at 11, or stop serving at 11? If it's the latter then there should be a sign at the door, or someone should have come out to tell us instead of making us wait in line only to cut us off. It sounds like you have a management problem. If your employees are too overworked to serve the rest of the people in line after the doors close at 11, then maybe you should fire the person staffing employees. If the manager isn't telling people the cutoff is 11pm and making them wait in line, maybe you need to fire that manager. I've seen several bad reviews about your stores not being ready when they open, and bad customer service which makes me think maybe it's time to move on from your district manager and hire someone that will get it right. Figure this out guys, I will not be going there any longer, will not recommend you to my friends and family, and you will lose many more customers with this type of...

Updated: Oct 8th Received a nice apology.

I await your reply. I re-re-emailed just now Oct 7: my original email dated Sept 30 and follow-up email Oct 1...all to hello@saltandstraw.com ---original post-- My wife and I recently visited Salt & Straw during our vacation in Portland, and I have mixed feelings about our experience. First, the positive – your ice cream is amazing. We enjoyed it so much on our first visit that we came back the very next day. However, our second visit to your NW 23rd location was quite disappointing.

My wife and I ordered the same flavors as the day before (coffee and peanut), but this time, my scoop had the consistency of frosted ice rather than creamy ice cream. It was missing the chunks of ingredients and the rich flavor we experienced earlier. I suspect the team member scooped from the frosted top layer of the container instead of the actual ice cream, as it was done much quicker than my wife’s order.

I reached out to your customer service with this feedback over a week and a half ago and followed up with a reminder, but unfortunately, I haven’t received any response. I’m very disappointed with both the product and the lack of follow-up from your team.

Hoping this review gets...

Salt and Straw continues to deliver outstanding, delicious, and innovative ice cream. The classics such as salted caramel and Olive oil and delicious (especially in a fresh waffle cone). Seasonal flavors rotate monthly and are outstanding and creative combinations of unusual ingredients. Definitely ask to taste a flavor or two if you're unsure which to pick. Unique flavor choices! A bit touristy so expect longer lines at times but it generally moves pretty fast. The staff is more than happy to hand out samples so you can get a sense of what you want. I'd recommend sampling the olive oil flavor. It sounds weird until you try it and realize it's really good! Amazing ice cream, large variety of unique flavors. You can sample them all to make the best combination for your taste buds, my default flavor is their famous lavender. It is a bit pricey, expect the average cone to be around $8-$10 range. The one pictured here is smaller and is about the $5 range, also their milkshakes are the best and they can maker...
