Even though I travel the world touring with "my" artists, this was my first time in Portland, Oregon. Our friends booked us a personal guide (Adam Thorn Smith, highly recommended! ) who showed us around and made Yelp even sent us a message on the day like "wow - you know how to explore all hot spots on one day".
So after the Japanese and Rose gardens, we took a first bite here at Henry Higgins, which was very good. I liked the ambiance, and the lady at the checkout was nice - just as you would expect from a place you go to ;-)
I prefer places with tableside service - but we loved everything we had - and yes, I would even use the word great for their bagels. I will not understand, though, why my breakfast sandwich with a toasted bagel, cheese, egg, and meat and a small bag of chips was cheaper than my wife's same bagel with cream cheese and egg salad (no chips, no cheese, no meat).
I generally also have a problem when places do not offer any service but take my order and make me pick up (= "over the counter-service" only), suggesting to tip the same amount as if I were in a full-service restaurant, particularly when they had charged restaurant prices in the first place ($6 for a coffee, $11 for a regular, toasted bagel with cream cheese and egg salad).
Again, we liked the place, even loved the bagels, would come back - but to rate five out of five stars, "surprises" would have to be on the positive rather than...
Read moreI ordered a pumpernickel bagel with cream cheese this morning and it was amazing. BUT... the gentleman handling my order was less then desirable. His attitude and handling of my food was uncalled for. He actually slammed my bagel down when he gave it to me. I then proceeded to tell him he needed to work on his customer service while exiting your shop because I had an order to pick up for a delivery service. I stopped in to use the bathroom and because of that I got a bagel as a thanks for letting me use the rest room. I am a delivery driver and have dealt with your establishment a few times and your service has been impeccable until this morning. One bad apple doesn't make the whole batch bad. I am a recovering addict/criminal and take pride in who I have become and I have little to no patience with people treating me horribly ( or my food for that matter ) for whatever reason. I am already hard on myself thinking I dont deserve anything good in my life for my past actions. I do a fine job putting myself down already and dont need other people to me mean to me as well. I'm not perfect and will speak up for myself. But being mistreated from someone who deals with customers is...
Read moreI am so highly disappointed with this restaurant, I expected the food to be good to great it was neither. I ordered to go the following Knish which I should if had an idea it would not taste the way it should since it was not what a knish should look like it was awful, corned beef sandwich on rye epic fail there was barely any corned beef and what was on the sandwich was mostly fat the rye bread was toasted? Did not ask for it to be toasted but I did ask for mustard on the side which was on the sandwich instead. The chopped liver although was ok I got sick to my stomach shortly after but can't say for sure it was that. The only thing that I liked was the rye Bagel and cream cheese and the black and white cookie. I called the restaurant to let them know about the epic fail of the corned beef sandwich and the response I got was ok I understand and that was about the jist of that conversation? No apologies no offer to make it right just ok I understand? Well understand this I hope this review is read over and over again by potential customers that will think twice about coming to eat at...
