High Ridge Center — Local services in Racine

We went to Home Depot to rent a truck. The employees at the rental desk were very friendly when we picked it up. But when we got in it it smelled like an ashtray and it was extremely filthy. They didn't have any other rentals to take at the time. We did what we needed to and returned the truck. We informed the employee at the desk about the smell and the filth. He said that people aren't suppose to smoke in the truck but they do and there was nothing they can do about it. Hey Home Depot here is an idea! If someone brings a truck back smelling like a cigarette make them pay for a cleaning! If this was the first time I rented a truck from these guys it would be the last. This geographic area was the site of what the locals referred to as "The County Home". The Racine County convalescent center. That is until the early 1980's when Regency Mall was built on Durand Avenue and Highway 31 was widened to 4(6) lanes. A developer purchased this property which is adjacent to the Mall property for retail strip mall development and a few outlots. The anchor stores, K Mart, Office Max and Toys R Us are long gone with only Home Depot surviving. A few other locally owned stores have come and gone in the strip mall and most of it sits empty. I will have to agree with one of the reviewer’s that the only place is Home Depot in the center. I love going to Home Depot just browsing and shopping.
