My experience in purchasing Jewelry here has been fine, but after my wedding, I went in to get my engagement ring soldered to my wedding ring. My wedding band had a care plan purchased with it, but my husband had not gotten a care plan on the engagement ring. Both rings were purchased at JCPenny stores; the engagement ring in Michigan, the band here. In addition, both rings were also on display in the store at the time of our issues -- proof that they were both made for and purchased at JCPenny. I asked the clerk if it was an issue that one was covered by the care plan and one was not. She never really answered my question, but told me I wouldn't be charged upon pickup. Around the time that my soldered ring was supposed to be ready, I got a call from Charlene at the Jewelry counter, who informed me that they had not started the soldering because one ring wasn't covered by the plan, so soldering would cost $45. I said that if the resulting combination of rings would be covered by the wedding band's care plan in the future, I would be okay with paying for soldering. If not, I would like to buy a care plan for the engagement ring -- which, I get it, was our fault for not doing in the beginning. She said she didn't know the answer and she would call me back after talking to a manager. About a week later, she called back and never really answered my question, instead saying that I would now be charged about $180 because one of the rings was a quarter-size larger than the other and they needed to be resized, plus they needed to be plated as one was silver and the other sterling silver. I was irritated about the sizing -- why not size the wedding band for free as it's covered by the care plan? Also -- the engagement ring was a size 7 when purchased and sized to a 6 right afterwards. If one of the rings was a size off, it would have been the company's fault for the ring not being a size 6. Even without getting an answer to my question about coverage, I asked Charlene how much it would be to get a care plan on the engagement ring. She said she could not sell me one because the ring would have to be returned and repurchased, which would require a receipt -- which we did not happen to have anymore, as it was purchased about a year before (our fault again... but would they even be able to 'return' it after that long, anyway?). When the ring was ready to pick up, the two ladies that gave it to me didn't charge me anything. I asked if they were sure, but they said I was good to go, so I nervously left. Later, I realized that the soldering was a bit wonky. It was soldered up farther on one side of the ring than the other, which gave the impression that they were not soldered flush together. I brought the ring back in to Charlene, who was not working when I picked it up. She told me that her own ring wasn't perfect, then said I could either learn to live with it or send it back. I thought that it was pretty unprofessional to use her own personal standard of acceptable in order to tell me that I should be fine with less than good craftsmanship on my own ring. She also nosily asked if they charged me yesterday, then grumbled when I said they didn't. If they wanted to charge me for the service, shouldn't she have left another receipt or something with my order so they would know to charge me?? The more she heckled me, the less willing I was to try and get the customer service I wanted. I'm not a very demanding customer, nor do I consider myself picky, but I did want my wedding rings to be very nice, considering I want to wear them forever, and it was making me very anxious to have to fight for a higher standard of quality. I got my ring back again today, and it looks a lot better. There are still some minor bits of uneven soldering left over, but they are very small and not noticeable unless you are uncomfortably close to the ring. I'll likely not return to this store because Charlene makes me uncomfortable, and I'm still not even sure if the ring will be covered by its care plan...
Read moreBelow is my original review. After my visit a few days ago I have come to update my review. I took time off to come in and carefully select several items for my birthday. This is tradition. I had to ask an employee to undress a manequin because as usual, my size was not available. I dug through the clearance mess for an hour. I grabbed the last pair of white adidas in my size and two clearance leopard pillows on my way to the back register to put it all on hold until the next morning (i was there at closing time). I gave the employee my items which i could barley hold it was so much. She took my name and wrote it on my stuff and told me i had 24 hrs to pick it all up. The next morning I met my mom there for her discount, we walked to the back to get my hold and i noticed the leopard pillows were back on the shelf i had taken them from. When i got to the counter and gave the employe my name she could not find my stuff. I realized that despite all the mess back there some employee had come in and put everything i had selected back on the floor EXCEPT those jeans i undressed the manequin to get, couldn't find them. I am almost 40 years old and when i realized they had done this i just started crying and threw an EPIC fit on my way out the door. I cried all day. I cant get the stuff i took all that time picking out again. I will not have another opportunity to take time off to shop around there and my mom can't return to meet with our time schedules. JCPenney ruined my birthday and i don't care if this is bratty to say. I made my mom walk out with me and we are done.
I give this store 5 stars because JCPenney has always been a huge part of my life literally since the day I was born. My mom was an employee in the office building on 3rd and main in Salt Lake City from the age of 18 until she retired a few years ago at sixty something and my grandpa Patterson worked for JCPenneys in Goldsboro North Carolina in his younger days. all the employees are always very nice and helpful and the price is...
Read moreI was glad there is a store for nostalgic reasons solely. Got a good deal. A lot is overpriced there so not so easy to do find the deals. Seems empty and devoid of a lot of merchandise. You might actually see a few martians there and alternately zombies or corn cow farmers, maybe a few gangbangers that look like they have knives!
It is a sad vibed store and didn't really leave much room for inspiration except the bathroom lounge chairs and the companies mottos & quotes.
There are a few large set ups for Levis and other brands that seem a little over the top with like neon lights and stuff. Just the set up advertising for each brand name and display seems like it would be more fitting like for a bar or place of worship. Odd. After you make your way through the empty maze they have set up to make it hard to reach the employee who is a cashier (I don't know why there was no one even in the store so why do you have to snake back and forth three times in opposite directions to reach a place to pay for the goods? The only thing I can think of it to further pure confusion which you are on your way out the store so no reason for it since it won't cause you to buy anything else. Especially since there is no merchandise to look at in the snakey line anyways. So no opportunities for amusement if there was a crowd waiting to be rung up anyways which there wasn't. The employee people there seem bored. The cashier didn't say anything was a total or a doller amount that I owed she just said this "You're at x total amount". So if your total is 💯 she will be all you are at 100 like you reached some milestone or not if your total is low. Like you are at .99 cent dude how disappointing. I felt like telling her well I may be at "$10.80" lady but where you are at is JC Penny. I know I know a bit too much to expect customer service or even cordiality from Ogden JC Penny. In fact I think a requirement to be employed there is stick ones nose in the air and block the customers...
