Don't normally do this being a business owner and all, but ya gotta speak up from time to time. So we go out for a relaxing birthday dinner expecting an inviting atmosphere at this "Best of Utah" multiple award winner and it was anything but. During the hottest time of the day, they seat our party of 5 on the west side of the dining room and they forgot to mention when we made our reservation that the air conditioner is broke. We tried to grin and bear it, but that's when it got even hotter. The server had use of only one hand, wrote our order down so he wouldn't forget, we had to repeatedly ask for cool water, and he forgot to put in our salad orders that come with the entree mind you. When my wife asked about the air not working and saying we are all sitting hear sweating, you think someone would try to do something, right? Nope! Instead, we had another server who overheard her yell from across the room, "Give her a free meal, she is uncomforatble!" The so called crisis negotiator, oh, I mean other server, then comes over and tells us that he has been working in it all day, as if we were to shut up and deal with it cause he has to. So, we thought we would be clever and ask him why they don't tell people making a reservation that the air is out to which he replies, "if we told all the customers the air was out and that they might be a 'little uncomfortable' if they come, nobody would show up." Two servers, and two employees behind the bar, one who may have just wanted the title of manger, now know there is a problem and they just stood there! No attempt to find a fan or, here's an idea, move us to the somewhat cooler east side. Nope! My wife then cut into the driest, blandest chicken dish she ever had and I told her to lean forward and drip sweat onto it because it will season it and help make it moist! Ha! We just had enough at that point and wanted to leave so we did...and then our side salads came. No joke! We hope others fair better but go cautiously if you do decide to plan...
Read moreWe have eaten here many times before and never had an issue like we did today. We were celebrating our 35th anniversary. The restaurant was not at all busy but we waited 25 minutes for a table. We assumed they were just understaffed and didn't mind waiting. When we sat down, our waitress was unable to take our drink order due to her age. Again we understood that. We ordered an appetizer and placed our menus down. When my husband's wine came out, it was the wrong one. That was easily corrected. Our waitress finally took our order. She repeated our order back to us and then immediately came back and said she forgot how I wanted my steak cooked. I reminded her that I ordered salmon. My drink was not refilled unless I specifically asked. We spent an incredible amount of time waiting on her. After about 25 more minutes our meal came out. She had forgotten our salads, and one side dish. She apologized again and brought them out. We were halfway through with our meal when we got our salads. She continued to ignore us. There was only one other table occupied in the restaurant at this time. None of our empty dishes were ever removed. We had to flag down a bus boy to ask him to find our waitress for our check. When we got our check, she had charged us for a bottle of wine instead of a glass. We had to wait another decent amount of time to get her to return and fix that mistake. Our food was delicious thank goodness, but our experience was awful. We are usually very patient and understanding when issues come up, but tonight was just one thing after another with no apparent effort to rectify the horrible service. We do love it here and will probably give it some time before we return. Definitely will request a...
Read moreCame here for lunch while finishing some Christmas shopping, was less then half capacity and I was seated immediately. normally dont go out for steak at places because not many can actually cook a steak well, but it had probably been a decade since I had been here and it is a but upscale as far as the local restaurants go.
Got a filet mignon with Asparagus, the meal was incredibly bland, I know filet mignon not a lot of fat to flavor it but keep reading. Maybe they just don't do this cut and side well? I'd take it thees items off the menu if so, I won't come back based on this experience.
The steak was tender, so at least it had its name sake going for it, but it was barely medium rare(as ordered), just the very Center fith the rest of it was well done. The bacon had to be the limpest and least flavorful bacon I've ever had, it was like it was boiled then wrapped around the steak after the fact, not sure how it didn't get any Millard reaction but it needed it to help lend flavor as the steak itself didn't seem to be seasoned at all no salt, pepper or anything came through. For some reason my table also didn't have salt or pepper, and after getting the food and taking a bite it was proving difficult to flag down my waitress.
The Asparagus was undercooked steamed Asparagus, hard and fibrous, no seasoning (salt or pepper) or anything else to speak of just undercooked steamed Asparagus. I realize the menu didn't say it was done up in any specific way but I'd have never expected it to be completely unseasoned in any way.
Idk maybe I'm the crazy person here, but thanks ruby river for reenforcing my stance on getting steak at restaurants. Overpriced and...
