We moved to Texas from out of state and needed to find an orthodontist who could finish out phase 1 of my daughters braces. When we found Dr. Shaw I was excited by all the glorious reviews, blown away by the gorgeous facility and nice office staff! We met Dr. Shaw on our first appointment to go over how he would take over finishing out her treatment and after that we never saw him. Flash forward to the day my 8 year old is getting off her braces and is so very excited because not only is she getting them off but her birthday is the very next day! As a parent I was so very excited for this special day only to be let down because it was not a priority on Dr. Shaw agenda. We arrive and my daughter starts to have her braces taken off by Britney, during this time my daughter starts to state it hurts and then even has tears rolling down her cheeks! Britney not only seemed annoyed but tried to tell my daughter she isn’t doing anything that hurts her and she is hurting her feelings by crying (Like are you serious you as an adult just said that to a child) Britney continues to work on my daughter and of course my daughter starts to cry again to where I finally had to tell her to stop and something is wrong because my daughter doesn’t just cry and over react! Britney got up said nothing to us left us sitting in the chair with no explanation for 10 minutes, while other patients were seen and went and talked to Dr Shaw! Then Dr Shaw comes over to see what is going on to find one of my daughters tooth is loose and the pulling the braces And wire off was causing pain to the newly loose tooth. He was gentle and said he wouldn’t clean the remainder or the glue on that tooth because it’s going to come out anyways to spare Her any pain. Afterwards he said she is good to go, gave her a popcorn bucket full of candy and that was it! No sooner does he do that I immediately have another woman asking me to sign paperwork of release when I am just trying to capture a picture of this moment! My daughter gets told she can sign the wall and then that’s it...no pictures no big Celebration or congratulations nothing, it was very disappointing for her and for me! When I walk to the front I ask Chandra (who has always been sweet every appointment we have seen her) if they take pictures with those that get their phase 1 braces off and she said no, that’s for phase 2! I left feeling disappointed and hurt for my daughter who was in tears on a day she should be so excited! Only to see on social media that Dr Shaw does take photos with phase 1 patients who get their braces off but clearly we weren’t important enough! Sad because up until that day a new family to Texas had referred those we knew and worked with to him and promoted his business via social media, but not anymore! Every patient should be important and picture worthy and no one who works with kids should make them feel bad when they cry...Britney maybe was having a bad day I don’t know, but her words and treatment were horrendous to a 8 year old child! I wanted to love Shaw orthodontics and for a couple months did, until the day that was to be special and mattered was ruined! I realize my opinion and review is a minority but my experience to my child and myself did happen and I am not afraid...
Read moreTo do an accurate review, one should begin by establishing what Shaw Orthodontics doesn't do.
What they don't do: Treat you as merely another paying customer. Handle their clients unprofessionally, or in an unfriendly manner. Leave you questioning your decision to place your trust, time, effort, & money in Dr. Shaw's (and his wonderful team's) delicate/superb work. Have you leave their office after any appointment without SOME form of evident progress accomplished, however significant or marginal.
We've just established what they don't do, but what is it that Shaw Orthodontics DOES do then?!
What they do: Dr. Shaw & ALL of his staff will handle your situation uniquely, but ALWAYS giving you the attention & care to divulge how they legitimately cherish your trust, leaving you feeling appreciated beyond just as another client. Greet you with every appointment in a very welcoming, friendly manner, and a professional (& yet somehow effortlessly casual) demeanor, oftentimes even taking the time to converse with you without delaying their work/time! Leave you feeling as you can fully trust their decisions regarding your progress to eventually give you the BEST smile you could only dream of in the most efficient manner. Clearly and unquestionably address your progress with every visit, taking the time to walk you through what steps need to be taken next to secure your perfect smile, step by step.
Without a doubt, my personal experience with Dr. Shaw & his amazing team has been overwhelmingly positive. Every time I went into their place of business (even in these always-worrisome, corona ridden times), I was greeted by Dr. Shaw's staff (including [but not limited to] Chandra & Brooke) in a way that always made me feel easy, welcome, and even flattered! It was a common sight to see many of the staff casually conversing with their other many patients, adults & children alike, and to see smiles and cheer all the way around. Dr. Shaw's professionalism and thoroughness was what persuaded us to place our trust into his business & work, but it was also his caring, easy-going demeanor, and ability to deliver RESULTS that made us STAY.
What Shaw Orthodontics does best, in my opinion, is remember you & make you FEEL remembered as a patient & more.
Oh, and they deliver seriously legitimate...
Read morePoor communication! I felt “had” and very rushed to fill out the paperwork and pay thousands of dollars without the opportunity to get a second opinion. Very overwhelming. My daughter already had braces on but we moved states and needed to find a new Orthodontist. The orthodontist was nice and I’m sure he’s great at his job but the office and other staff gave me anxiety. One thing I will say is he looked at me sideways when I mentioned her gum line. Both of the other orthodontists I’ve seen knew exactly how to correct that. He didn’t know or seem to care. They don’t return calls or communicate. After canceling my daughters appointment to get her new braces on my card was still charged. I tried contacting them several times and finally had to have my bank deal with the charges and block them from charging me any more. I still get bills in the mail months later and my daughter never got new braces on there. They have never once tried to call or return any of my phone calls. I really don’t know how every single review is 5 stars when my experience with this office was less than satisfactory to say the least. I’ve also called several times before all that happened to ask what it would cost to get my daughters old braces off and they would never give me an answer. They’d say they would get back to me and each time I would never hear from them. I’ve found a different orthodontist and we’re very happy with the him AND the office! ESPECIALLY the office staff! This place is...
