Merrillville Metal Recycling — Local services in Ross Township

The prices were OK, but I feel duped out of what I should have earned. I did not have much, and this was my first time at a scrap yard, but I was given an attitude by who I guess is the owner. I had several pounds of scrap brass that I meticulously sorted out, including doorknobs that I took the non-brass parts off of. They just labeled the whole thing as "doorknobs" and paid me like, 6 cents a pound for about 10 pounds of yellow brass.

As soon as I even got into the place, I was chastized for not sorting my copper wire between Bare Bright and #2, which I did not do because I did not mind getting #2 price for the whole thing.

I got Aluminum Transformer price (9 cents) for what was obviously just Bare EC Wire (60 cents).

The whole situation felt super rushed, almost as if I was seen as a burden for being there, instead of as a merchant selling my scrap metal. So I will try to find a different place for my scrap metal that doesn't see me as...

Went at 1:10pm, says it's open until 3:45pm but apparently they can't tell time there because everything was closed and locked up. Tried on a different day at 10:30am and again gates closed and locked no people and nothing saying whether they're closed or on lunch, just a website saying a closed building is open. Either they need to update their website or they need to teach their employees how to tell time.

Your reply only applies to today, the other instance was over a week and a half ago. Putting something up in the building is only helpful to people that go there regularly so your reply is basically saying screw any new people who want to come in. Maybe try communicating with more than your regular customers to avoid future bad reviews, you have a website/Facebook...

I got super lucky finding this place! I travel all over the country for work. At the end of the job there's always a car load of scrap to drop off. This was the first yard I called and they had a very good price on scrap copper. I was the only customer and was invited to have a BBQ with the crew. Super friendly people!
