I had to edit my review in regard to Value City and the way management handles its customer. I had just left a glowing review a short time ago. It is still attached to this edited review.
As I stated in my first review I have never had a negative experience with sales, the ladies that ring you up, management to the delivery service. It has always been a wonderful family owned store. I belived it before.
The bedroom set I had purchased has a sleigh bed which I didn't like then and especially didn't like when it was in my home. The rest of the bedroom furniture was lovely and everything I hoped for. The bed has a extremely large and tall headboard, that I disliked. I went in to the store and spoke with the manager of the store and worked out a satisfactory refund, that included the headboard, side rails, footboard and return delivery. I left with the same feeling that I always felt, that I was treated with respect, honesty and sincerity, that my feelings about the bed needing to be returned were not a problem. So I left and a few days later the bed was removed and then I went back to Value City to be refunded the amount that the manager and I agreed to. When I arrived to the store the assistant manager was there and I explained why I was there and we were doing the refund when I asked about the warranty that was attached to everything l purchased and had read that it would be a store credit. I didn't mind since I had just purchased a dining room set and a living room sectional also and I knew there were a few more pieces I needed. This asst. manager informs me that the insurance can't be refunded because it was included in the price of the refund. I said that I had not been informed of that and he went to state that was policy and even if I wasn't refunded that I would have to wait FIVE YRS to be refunded!!! NO ONE TOLD ME THAT!!! SO BUYER BEWARE you will have to post your Value City furniture ins to your will. They attach insurance programs on all your furniture, which you can't be refunded after the sales puts it on everything you buy. So set your computer to remind you that you are due a store credit in FIVE YRS. I spent well over $12,000 and my loyalty to Value City for over many yrs. was reduced to $249.00 that I would not get back from the bed and definetely feel that I was taken advantage of with all the ins nonsense.
My last line was that I would buy more furniture in the future...I might fall for this BS once but now that I know, it won't happen twice.
My guarantee to Value City is that I won't buy another thing nor will I ever have a positive thing to post or say.
" I purchased 3 rooms of furniture. Affordable, with a very nice selection of materials and small touches that you normally can't touch at this price point. My third bedroom set, third sectional living room set, and fourth dining room sets. Their staff make it possible to return something that just doesn't work in your home to purchasing a few extra pieces that will. I am extremely satisfied with Value City. My first purchase was in 2007 and won't be my last."
!!!BUYER BEWARE!!! Insurance that you do NOT know that the sales will include in your sales agreement. Can't get it refunded so you have to wait FIVE YRS. to get a store credit. So happy I found out the truth. Value City and Uniter's Ins program take advantage for FIVE YRS...

First things first: Like the majority of people, i was a little apprehensive about purchasing through Value City. BUT, the actual merchandise/clothing stores have the reputation & true appearance of chaos, disorganization & good luck finding any customer service. DO NOT make the mistaje of comparing the messy clothing store to Value City Furniture.
We have been shopping for furniture for a few weeks now, & aside from the above & beyond customer service; the store itself was CLEAN, ORGANIZED, WELL STAFFED & as weird as it may sound.... it didn't have that funky furniture store smell (which is a huge factor for me lol).
Now for our actual shopping experience. If i could give 10 stars... i wouldn't think twice about it. Where to begin about our experience at Merrillville's Value City Furniture? Buying furniture is never THIS easy or pleasant. I have to give the BIGGEST shout out to Walter!! Value City Furniture's customer service throughout our entire experience was 5 star from start to finish, but it really was Walter who sealed the deal.
Unlike most furniture companies (cough Ashley Furniture), my family & I weren't treated like customers at a used car lot. No one was 3 feet behind us, listening in on our every comment, Walter was so incredibly respectful, kind & just a genuinely KIND & GOOD person. He actually gave us space without finding reasons to linger or interrupt every discussion we had. While giving us our space when needed, he was also instantly available & 100% attentive when we did have questions.
Walter was so patient with our two young boys, as well as my husband & I jumping back & forth trying to decide which furniture would not only fit, match & be sturdy enough for our boys. All parents know that this is much easier said than done.
When we finally made a decision, I ust randomly walked back & found our exact set on clearance! I felt bad to even tell him because when most salesmen find out you are spending less money, their attitude & demeanor instantly change as if customers are trying to intentionally lower the total sale. Walter seemed just as happy as we were that we found such an incredible deal! In his words, the set was "meant to be." How rare is it to find a sales person who treats you with as much respect & kindness throughout our entire process, even though we ended up spending far less money??? It's basically unheard of nowadays. When we decided to walk away from Ashley Furniture without making a purchase, our salesman wouldn't even say goodbye to us.
Merrillville Value City & especially our friend, Walter understand the importance of building relationships with their customers in the long run, not just for a single sale. Because of that, any furniture we or anyone we know will be through Value...
