I am a Veteran in my first semester back at college with SPC. Let me start by saying that this isn't a review on the college but on it's Veteran Assistance. It has been a month since I started school and I am still waiting on any form of financial assistance. I constantly keep calling the VA asking them what is taking so long, come to find out they have no record of me even attending this school. Nothing. I call the VA office at SPC and they ask me to bring in paperwork I had already turned into them once before, they had lost it. I brought the paper work in, come to find out their filling system consists of a giant stack of papers, not even remotely organized. I gladly let them make more copies of the paperwork, and a few weeks go by, still no payment. According to the website SPC makes Veterans their number one priority. I have a hard time believing this when I called the VA and they still had no record of me. Every time I call the VA regional office it is at least a 30 minute wait due to high call volume. The VA told me I needed to get 3 things from SPC, that they still had no record of me. I called SPC and someone answered the phone, didn't introduce themselves or "How can I help You?", just "VA OFFICE". It was the Veteran's Service Specialist Larry Hobbs, after I asked him, "Mr. Hobbs is this you?" I told him of my issue, taking no responsibility for how long it has taken, or for the fact that they lost my paperwork in the first place, he blames the VA. I am sure it is both of their faults that I am 5 weeks into the school year with NO MONEY and a Maxed out Credit Card. I gtg I am on hold again with the VA Office in Atlanta with the Info that somehow hasn't made it to their systems. SPC has great teachers, couldn't be happier with my overall school experience. As for the VA SPECIALISTS that make us Veterans their Top Priority,...
Read moreMy spouse attendance at the Gibbs and downtown St Pete campus taught her valuable lessons of hard work and perseverance in maintain good grades. Students must pass the prereq's with a C (2.5) or better. My spouse will enter into SPC Health Education Center for her third level this coming Fall semester. Only 90 student nurses will enter into the nursing class for the Fall semester and the top peers of the GPAs will take priority over the other students. Next the students must pass all of the medical exams (TB and STDs) and the student's personal background checks (no criminal activities). Remember for a student nurse to pass from level to level the GPA must be 80 GPA for passing the letter grade of C or greater and not the 74 GPA! If a student nurse decides to have clinical performed at the VA hospital in St Petersburg then a wider screening of personal background security checked are performed due to US Government federal regulations. During the 4th level a more extensive background investigation is involved and if any type of criminal activities are found (a medical board will review the findings with the student present) then the student nurse will be barred from taking the NCLEX test. Good luck...
