I always make a point to check out local record stores when I’m traveling, and this is one of the best I’ve seen. I walked in thinking I’d buy one or two records just to cross it off my vacation checklist, but I walked out with way more than that. Great selection at fair prices, and an added bonus for the nerds like myself, their price stickers generally identified the year/origin of a particular pressing so you have a better idea of what you’re getting - a simple thing that most stores don’t seem to do!
On top of that, the people running the shop were great to chat with, and when my partner and I mentioned we’d have to ship our records home (carrying a stack of vinyl on a plane didn’t seem like a great idea), they went out of their way to dig up a few vinyl mailers for us.
Would absolutely recommend any traveling vinyl collector stop by Record Exchange when...
Read moreAwesome!! Seriously great place! I have a hard panic inducing hour long drive to get to Salem from my home-base, and with all the wonderful things to do in Salem this place is my top reason for making the trek. Typical genre sort pattern, but with a greater emphasis on alphabetical listing's store wide (meaning check genres, but, also check the alphabet for less obvious genre distinctions). Record centric store, but they also carry an abundance of high quality CDs (some cassettes and some DVDs) titles at fair to lower price than the internet. I noticed a weird trend in this store of having obscure, and or, collectable Records in amazing shape at lower cost than I have traditionally seen while the standard fare seems (to me) to be a little if not a lot over priced. Plan accordingly and you should a great "dusty fingers" day. Happy...
Read moreA really cool record store that has a lot of British (UK imports) and CDs. Music lovers' haven.
I met Paul the owner of The Record Exchange in Salem, MA. We bonded over our love of The Jam and talked about Paul Weller's musical history, and British/European music. Finally, a store that has music I'm familiar with.
Paul asked to send his kindest regards to the folks at Steel City and Jerry's Records / Vinylpalooza. He said he used to have a customer from Pittsburgh from Moon Township. I told him I'd howl when I go by. He is one of the few record store owners who knew about Jerry's Records and brought up the topic himself when hearing I'm from Pittsburgh.
He asked if I was a music collector. I said no, I'm more a music lover, I don't care in what media form. The media is for sharing with others and...
