I'm a senior female, I'm paralyzed from my armpits down. . I got stranded on my way to be with my only living child, who has just moved to Wisconsin. My home blew up just a few years ago. I had no homeowners insurance in place at that time. So I ended up completely homeless. I was at The Road Home for nearly a year. That's when my younger daughter passed away from pneumonia. I couldn't stand being there, after she was gone. I lived on the street for a few months. That's when I went to the E.R. only to discover that I had Necrotizing Fascitis (the flesh eating bacteria). From using the porta-potty at the park, or from the shelter itself. While I was there; things had been stolen from me on a daily basis. But since coming here, it's been an almost pleasant experience. The facility is clean, the staff has been great to myself as well as my (registered) service animal, named Monster. I'm pretty much only known by the name Monster's Mom. I have had NOTHING stolen from me. Almost everyone has been very cordial and helpful. I can't tell you how very much I appreciate all they have done for us. I'm very grateful for the staff, security, case managers, and the medical care I've been given. I would have given it at a 5 star rating, the only issue is the loudness day and night. But there's really nothing they can do about that !! THANK YOU ALL, to every staff member!! I can't even express my gratitude...
Read moreIf you like being treated like a inmate stay here......if not try the Gail Miller Resource Center. I was staying there for about 1½years and when I was just about to get my first place in almost 3 years they threw away almost $7000 worth of my winter clothes, coats and other items that I needed to use to stay warm in the snow 18 days before I moved into my place in the middle of summer this year. Since they did that I need to replace everything that they threw away which is impossible to do when I now have to pay for everything that is involved with me keeping my apartment, my cats and myself feed, but sometimes I have to go without food for 2 to 3 weeks without food just to keep my apartment and cats feed. Plus during my time there I was exited several times for doing absolutely nothing, and my cats had been exited several times to the point where I would have to pay anywhere from 400 to $600 for boarding just so I could stay in the shelter. It even went so far as to me being exited 411 days last year over Christmas and New Year's! I didn't even get any food from inside while exited and when I was exited my cats were exited with me!!!!!!! And that's how they try to help homeless people some get exited for several days were others get 0 exits or their exited during the daytime only which is from 10 a.m....
Read moreI have been at the women's resource center for over a year. We have free shelter, utilities, Wi-Fi, three meals a day. We also have free hygiene products, free laundry, free showers, free pet food, and free clothes. We also have case management and housing assistance. The staff is professional and friendly. The past clients that have posted negative reviews were trouble makers who thought that they shouldn't have to follow the rules. I have gone over a year without a yellow or red slip, no write ups, no pet violations, and no exits. There are 230 women here on any given day. We come from all backgrounds and have various issues. The staff does the best they can to help each of us. There may be some slight favoritism but, if someone was swearing at me and calling me foul names every time we interacted, I wouldn't be motivated to assist them either. I would also like to thank all the members of our community that are willing to take their hard earned money to buy and donate things to us and who volunteer their time in our shelter. The staff is wonderful. Working here is difficult. I am grateful for...
