Koi Dessert Bar Rolled Icecream, Smoothies & Boba Tea — Restaurant in Salt Lake City

I was definitely underwhelmed with my experience here. First I should mention the smell. I don’t know if they are cleaning with an ammonia based product, or if the smell was due to poor bathroom etiquette by some riff-raff coming in off State, buuuuttt… it stinks like pee. Granted, I do have a hyper sensitive nose, but this is not an appealing scent for any food establishment.

This was our first visit and I got a boba for me and an ice cream bowl for my son. I will say, my son did enjoy his, which I why I am allowing 2-stars. Mine, not so much. I come from a blended Asian family and have had boba many, many times. The flavor selection was more limited than other places, but I found one that sounded good. They do have the option for almond milk, which I did. The drink came out warm, with only a few ice slivers floating on top. I could forgive them not using a ton of ice, but was the almond milk not refrigerated?

I don’t know what kind of almond milk they use but it was overpowering and gross. It tasted malted? I could not detect the flavor of the drink itself thru it. The fact that it tasted gross, and the milk was warm, I couldn’t help but think maybe it was bad. I stopped drinking it about halfway. The biggest disappointment was the boba itself though. The consistency was off, stale maybe? I don’t know how to explain it other than it was like hard rubber rather than soft gummy.

Sadly, within a few hours of my order, my tummy is NOT happy! I’m crossing my fingers it’s just mild distress and clears up fast. I’m at least grateful for not drinking all of it but needless to say, I can’t recommend the drinks here. If your nose can handle the ammonia smell and you want ice cream… maybe give it a shot. It seems like a nice, family establishment, but they have some quality issues to...

Wow. What a disappointment. We arrived at 9:30 pm and there were 7 people in the establishment.

2 poorly trained teenager kids were making ice cream at the slowest pace.

First off, I stand in line with my friend as first time customers.

We were ignored for the first 7-10 min, just standing at the counter.

The 2 teenage kids didn’t acknowledge us and the manager/owner didn’t seem to care we we there.

After 7 min, we ordered. It was a simple order.

It took a good 20+ min to get ice cream. It wasn’t that busy, just highly unorganized.

During the delay of our order the manager/owner came out and berated a teenager in front of us.

I’ve managed hundreds of people before, and Ive never talked to anyone who worked for me like this.

The place was dirty.

The management was horrible.

The bathrooms were disgusting.

At 10:04 a teenage kid came out of the kitchen...

“”Time to get out!” and they TURNED OFF THR LIGHTS.

Seriously?

This place is a dump.

I’m not sure if this was a bad night or if it’s just gone wayyyy down hill.

The owner/manager seemed like a horrible boss the way people performed, people were treated and how dirty it was.

The ice cream wasn’t even worth all of this.

I took 4 bites and thew mine away since we were kicked out after eating for only 10 min.

This place deserves a lot more 1...

Truly amazing!! I am a boba freak! A freak to the point that I'm totally obsessed! So, a statement such such as; Koi D's rolled ice cream is better than any boba I've ever had, is a monumental statement for me to make! Their boabs are beautiful! They reside somewhere along my top 3. But their rolled ice cream dominates!! I typically get a smoothie boba. When most of the drink is gone, I find that it gets pretty icy and watery. You don't get that with ice cream, which is why I believe that it is better. The flavor of the ice cream is much more lavish, velvety, and condensed! God I just love it! I also love the sheer number of flavors and toppings Koi D offers! My favorite toppings include coconut flakes, regular pearls, and mochi. The mochi is absolutely heavenly and goes so good with tapioca pearls. They serve the pearls warm, and I love the contrast of warm and cold with the ice cream!
