While my son and I were looking for a book he desperately needed for school asap, we ended up rediscovered Sam Weller's bookstore. Since we do not live close to downtown, I hadn't been to Sam Wellers since it was still on Main street years ago!!. So--- This evening while in search of his book, we inadvertently walked into the "last Friday of the month presentation" that is given by the staff. It was so cool to hear all the stories about Sam Weller, his family & employees, author signings AND the old bookstore. We also got to see a lot of neat books that were passed around during th presentation as well as some old collectors edition books. My son said that the cookies were really delicious and they were gracious hosts who offered us drinks while we sat and listened to all the fun stories. the presentation was great! Loved it!! I use to frequent the old bookstore with my dad when I was a little girl, getting a new book from there each Friday after our day together...so seeing the new Sam Wellers in Trolley Square brought back a lot of memories since there is still that "vibe" from the old bookstore, plus a similar organization of books that the old store had. The Booksellers there are still super helpful and friendly. A nice young woman helped us find the book my son needed quickly so we had more time to browse. In the end, we left buying two other books in edition to the needed one with plans to return. Since we got there so late, I didn't have sufficient time to browse the store as I would have liked for books for myself. I love how there are many new books but also many used books as well. I was able to find a few books I wanted used at a low price but still in good condition. I also saw a lot of books I read when I was little while we were looking at the kids section to get our son's book. There was lots of Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden, and Hardy Boys books that I would love to get... just to have them. I can't wait to go backš ... it is great to have rediscovered Sam Weller's and find that they still have a great selection and lots of titles to look at. My son also is anticipating a return trip... this time with his other brothers so we can all browse the books together. Great place for a...

Okay all, I donāt do this often but here it goes. I was at the Weller Book Works store tonight. We walked in and my stepmom mentioned to the clerk on the second floor who beautiful the store was and how awesome she thought it was. The clerk then rudely brushed her off.
After going to the first floor this book is what we found. This left wing garbage front in center of their store. Now, yes, the store has their own rights. They can display whatever we want. However, my dad and I were having a talk about this store having such a disgusting book like this front and center in their store. The store clerk then decided to interrupt us and to say that they have āthat idiot, Glen Beckās book over there.ā
This book is literally calling the alt-right Nazis. It does NOT matter if youāre liberal, conservative, or independent. NEVER call a person a Nazi just because they donāt agree with the same politics. A group of people that claim to be peace loving, all is equal, are pure hypocrites.
We went back to the store to take this photo. My dad told the clerk that we ended up being paying customers and he waived us out. I then said thatās not the way to treat a paying customer. We left.
Not just because they support people calling others Naziās, but also, because of the terrible service they gave I will NEVER be returning to this business again.
This was a store that I have grown up visiting. Itās a disgrace.
(Keep in mind. This has NOTHING to do with what I agree or disagree with whether when it comes...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAMAZING bookstore! Every city we visit I always try to visit a few bookstores. I, in particular, collect a very specific genre of books, namely old Ocean Liner/Nautical/Titanic topics, most if which is long out of print. Most places I have been to I'm lucky to find 1-2 books. However, upon asking the front desk for "ocean liners/ships" section I assumed they had a general "Transportation" section like most stores. Nope, they said they had a whole "nautical" section and showed me the way. They were very apologetic stating that the books in this section haven't been gone through in a while so I may need to look around. HOLY CRAP! There were DOZENS of books related to Ocean Liners - I had never seen so many of them. They were indeed all over the place in the "section" but I felt like a kid in a candy store. SO.MANY.BOOKS I had actively been looking for were scattered throughout the section. I could hardly contain my excitement. I had a stack of about 2 dozen books once I was done combing through the shelves. The books were reasonably priced or even beat the online prices I had been eyeballing. The staff came by and offered me a cart to carry everything. I knew the total would be high, so I started prioritizing my selection to get to a more "reasonable" amount, but then they said that if I buy more than 5 I would get a nice discount. So I ended up selecting 17 total books (a few hundred $ still) and packed them into a box at the register. Just amazing store and I highly recommend them!! I would visit SLC (we are from Reno) again JUST to visit...
