Was looking for a quick little snack and some cold brews to hold my wife and I over until we were to attend a special event in the area. The Desert Edge came up on the ever-useful Google search and we decided to stop in.
A place that is making their own brews, I wanted to sample all of their creations, but because it's Utah, flights aren't acceptable to their goofy government. Instead, 2 samples at a time are accepted so that's what I did. And, at 60 cents/each, I can work with them. As I started to sample their brews, I quickly determined that, like most of the Utah made beers, they're a little "watered down".
Also, because of Utah's goofy laws, I was required to order food in order to test out those brews. So, we ordered some crab cakes. While delicious, they came across as pre-made\boxed crab cakes, not something made fresh daily. But, for 1/2 off happy hour prices, you really can't complain about that small discrepancy.
Back to the brews. While I feel that they're a little "watered down", I did enjoy a couple of them. I liked their Hefe and Red the most, but their UPA (version of an IPA) was also half way decent as well. So, if you're in the area of the Desert Edge, why not stop in and check it out for yourself. Didn't get a chance to try any other menu items and they may very well be worth consuming and pleasing to your...
Read moreWe've been to Desert Edge several times, and normally or experience is at least good, but tonight wasn't. We were there with a table of 15 celebrating my mom's and her twin sister's birthday on a Sunday night.
First, the waitress seemed really put out about waiting on us right from the beginning. The restaurant wasn't super busy, and we hadn't done anything particularly obnoxious besides having a large party. She left us with the menus and handed out the orders to random people, expecting us to sort it out as if we listened to what everyone else had ordered. We did keep asking for things like ranch, so I get how it could have been frustrating later on, but I would imagine it would be easier on her if she would have been more proactive about asking what we need and bringing us refills.
The restaurant is always my aunt's choice because they have one dish she loves, but tonight, they were out tortellini for the turkey salad. We could say that wasn't a big deal, but the waitress had a "Eh." attitude about it, and my aunt's 2nd choice, the shrimp (I think) fettuccini, came with thin spaghetti noodles. Additionally, a few minutes after I ordered the special, the waitress came back to tell me that as soon as she walked to the back, they ran out.
In the end, I'm sure we'll be back, but I'm hoping next time...
Read moreSo to start, our table was sticky. We had to unstick our menus from the table, our server Jennica did not seem like she wanted to be there at all, and we only saw her once, once we got our drinks she did not offer us straws, and simply left. The next server we had to call over from another table to ask for straws. She offered to refill a Dr.Pepper, but then it never came. When she came back next we had to ask where it was. We never got checked on during our meal, and every time we tried to talk to a wait staff we had to call them over from what they were doing. Food was fine. Jennae did apologize because it was busy. But we were never checked on once, not by our server Jennica. When we tried to pay and leave, Jennica almost walked to our table, Paused, and just turned around and did not come back, she did not even speak to us. We were sat alone in a corner with no one surrounding us. We had to get up after afew minuets, find jennae, to pay and leave. The second time we saw our waitress Jennica, she had walked over to Jennae who was checking us out, asked her “you good?” And walked away again. She didn’t bother to address us at all or at least say Have a Goodnight. Nothing you get from a typical dining experience, with sub-par waitresses. Below-par...
