EPOCH Head Spa — Local services in San Diego

There were some pro’s to this place however my overall score was due to my overall experience and expectation of the supervised I thought I would be provided given the description on their website. I’ll preface this by saying this was my first time and my expectations were ver high because I’ve had such itch scalp and occasional flakes. That said here are the pro’s of my experience: the staff was friendly and the tea tree treatment application of the tea tree was amazing- this was the beginning of the experience. Where it went downhill for me was when I laid in the massage bed, I was not expecting this as I didn’t understand that would be the case given the description on the website. I felt claustrophobic and overwhelmed in the massage bed as it constrains your arms and legs and gives you NO room to move. The overwhelming part was the back roller, arm and leg squeeze all at once was painful and uncomfortable . I asked if I could take my arms out and stop the massage bed . She did, but since she paused the bed my back was arched in a way that hurt- it felt like I was laying on rocks. Because my arms were out of the “restraints” my shoulders were up therefore not leaving her room to massage my neck and chest throughly. I will say there were some points of the head washing that were nice and relaxing but other times my hair was being pulled by the apparatus used to massage my head. All that said I left with a back ache and still slightly itchy scalp.

I will say if you don’t mind being restrained to a massage bed, this may be for you. For me, I didn’t appreciate spending my leisure funds on something that did not help elevate everyday stresses and that a bummer - in this economy, I try to treat myself once in a blue moon and this was not a...

I wanted to do something special for my daughter to help ease her stress from university exams, and this was perfect! We tried the Renewal for the first time, and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Overall, it was incredibly relaxing and also very informative. Seeing the condition of my scalp before and after was quite a shock, but it really highlighted the importance of this treatment. I’ll definitely keep this up—plus, it’s a great excuse to spend time with my daughter! 😀 I will be honest there were moments when I thought my scalp was being exfoliated off, but once I saw the results, I understood how necessary and beneficial the treatment is. While that was happening though there was a balance of relaxation, I was lying comfortably on a massage bed/reclining chair, feeling gentle pressure while the other treatment of a facial mask worked wonders to hydrate my skin. I’ve gone to Epoch’s neighbor, Portal Salon, for some time so when the head spa opened I was excited to give it a try. The space is welcoming, dimly lit with soft music, setting the right tone for maximum relaxation. I was scheduled for the renewal service, which includes the head spa experience plus a facial. We started with the scalp analysis, which was interesting (did you know that up close a gray hair looks clear like glass!?). Following the analysis, my scalp was pretreated to help with the cleansing and then we moved to the massage chair and head spa bowl. I love a massage chair and each phase, dry brush, facial, multiple head and next massages, was more relaxing than the next. I’m tall and found the chair comfortable for me too. After the scalp cleanse and facial, my hair was detangled and defused (I have curly hair) and so SOFT. My scalp felt amazing.
