LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! Pilates of San Diego is a quality reformer Pilates studio with quality instructors. I’ve been practicing reformer Pilates for over 10 years at studios all over the country, and Pilates of San Diego is one of the best I’ve ever experienced. Amazing owner Ania London and her talented band of instructors (Annie, Anel, Sheena, Carina, Fernanda, Yoshi) are the reason I return day after day. In a public class (8 reformers in all) where it’s just about impossible to get one-on-one instruction, they somehow manage to give you the attention you need, from the beginner to the most advanced student, perfecting form while cheering you on. Each instructor has their own style (and music soundtrack), which makes it great for offering variety if you’re a regular, but you can always count on some sort of version that’s not too far off from classical Pilates. Each class can be as challenging or easy as you'd like it, depending on what effort you're willing to put in, so it's good for all levels. I never leave feeling unsatisfied. Stretch classes are on offer, too, which combine really well with any other class at the studio.
I’ve been attending the East Village studio since it opened in August 2016 (I first fell in love with Pilates of San Diego at their Marina District location), and it is a beautiful and motivating contemporary space with high, open ceilings, great ventilation (because you WILL sweat if you’re doing it right!), good sound system and brand-spanking new equipment: 8 reformers with towers, boxes, jump boards, Pilates rings, rubber balls, mats, hand weights of all sizes, and even a Cadillac reformer for private sessions. I expect the equipment to stay in good shape because Ania & her staff lovingly look after the studio (and students!).
I cannot speak more highly of Ania, her staff and studio. If you’re ever considering trying reformer Pilates, or looking for a new studio, give this one a shot. Ania offers a killer introductory rate of 4 sessions for $49 or 8 sessions for $89 for new students, which is really a bargain for reformer classes at this caliber, which typically cost upwards of $30 for a drop-in class anywhere. If you’re stuck in an exercise rut or are simply looking for something different, try reformer Pilates for at least for a couple of weeks, and you will notice results immediately, if your form is correct (which is one of the best reasons for trying out Pilates of San Diego).
I’ve found a regular practice of reformer Pilates to be the one exercise that has changed my body (and mind) for the better. I’ve been active all my 40+ years, always played team sports and love outdoor pursuits, but I’ve always had to work my ass off to stay in shape without ever achieving the results I really wanted. There has been nothing like reformer Pilates in my experience where I’ve seen & felt noticeable results so quickly when I’m doing it regularly. I feel strong without the bulk, my clothes fit so much better, and practice makes me ready for any activity that comes my way (even extreme sports!). And, I find it’s not grueling, so I actually look forward to class (especially those at Pilates of San Diego), which, if you’re a regular of anything, is a major hurdle.
Bottom line, I hope I never have to move out of San Diego because I don’t think I can live without Pilates...
Read moreI decided to begin Pilates for my back pain because I work remotely and am in front of a laptop for a minimum of 8 hours a day. The best decision I have ever made. I was looking at a Pilates place online that is close to where I live, which is East Village, where I could go, and I discovered pilatesofsandiego. It is very close to where I live. I have never worked out, so I booked a private session with Jamie. She is fantastic, and I cannot say enough about her personality and tactics!! Jamie always clearly explains every movement and shows me how I should do the move correctly to work on that specific area. I booked private sessions with her every Sunday, so I went to Pilates once a week. I love it so much, so after two months of private sessions with Jamie, I added a group class with Irene every Tuesday. I was getting completely sweaty every time I was leaving Irene's class. She always pays attention to each participant and, based on our level, gives more option on how we should do specific movements. Then, after a month or two, I added Shayna's classes to my routine. Shayna's classes are incredible. We use different tools, such as a bowl or a ring, to do the movement, which challenges us to put in more effort, which I love. The owner, Ania, is the sweetest person I met as a business owner. She was always available to answer my questions and give more options/recommendations about purchasing ten classes(which expire a year) or doing a different package. The classes are a maximum of six people; another advantage of this place is that if you want to cancel the booked class, you have 6 hours in advance to cancel your booking. After my experience with pilatesofsandiego, I cannot recommend this place highly enough to anyone to begin...
Read moreI absolutely love Pilates of San Diego! I have been to several different studios in San Diego and feel that the teachers here are by far the best. They’re all very skilled in the most important aspects of Pilates, controlled and focused movement, and execution of technique. I started traditional equipment and mat Pilates back in 2001, and fell in love with reformers when they came out, so I have some experience with Pilates. The best thing is that there is always room to grow and improve with Pilates, including deepening of technique and I really feel you get that at Pilates of SD. From beginner level and on, Ania and her crew are excellent at helping each person hone in on not only where they can improve but how well they are improving. I love the intimate size of the class with only 6 reformers in the studio it has allowed for comfort and personal attention during class and beyond, as they offer private and semi private sessions too. Literally cannot say enough great things about...
