So I had a of Birthday gift to buy for a 99 year old East Coast Scottish Sweetie with a sweet tooth that loves shortbread and chocolate, and I thought a See’s Candies gift would be great as a California Icon which is owned by Warren Buffet! Yes, this gal is a savvy investor so she would know that notable detail! If you can believe it, boxes of specialty chocolate candies not really being “my thing” as I always think of Forest Gump poking through all of the bottoms to find one he likes and it makes me grimace! Ha! Anyways, I did think it would make a thoughtful gift for a person who truly has a sweet tooth! So it was my first time going into a See’s Candy Store! ~And OMG!! The experience at this 3751 Rosecrans Store absolutely brightened my day and may have snagged me into becoming a boxed specialty chocolate aficionado! ! All because the gal tending to us customers was a Princess of Hospitality and Gold Standard Customer Service! Jamilah L. Was cheerful, cordial, pleasant, patient, super kind, and spoke with such a musical tone of pleasant energy as she treated each and every customer (even one who cut in line!) the exact same way! I was glad there was a line just so I could take it all in! Having managed in retail in my former life, this is the kind of people-person that every retail business needs and prizes!! And Jamilah was simply that and more! She is Beautiful! ~As for the chocolate, Jamilah gave me a sample of a coconut milk chocolate candy that was super fresh and of extraordinary quality! (I should have known this would be the case since Warren Buffet owns the Business, and he has thrived on excellence all of his life!) Anyway, the cherry on top was that they had little round Lemon shortbread cookies covered in white chocolate and an amazing selection of various chocolates in beautiful boxes and ribbons! This experience was the perfect gift to my own heart AND to be able to send along such a quality gift to my dear friend back East! This will definitely be my go-to for sweet gifts going forward! Thank you See’s Candies for such a great, tasty product line and an excellent store to shop at! Thank you, Jamilah for the lovely store experience! You are definitely management material, as you lead on...
Read moreSees has been part of my family generation since 1925. My family's roots are in Los Angeles. My great grandma couldn't go into the store but the home where she was the keeper of the house, they would give her some for the family. My grandmother, now age 98, introduced me to Sees. I would sneak squares of the vanilla walnut fudge from the drawer when she would work in the garden (smile). Now even my kiddo loves See's candies. And we can walk in the store any time we want and will not get a side eye or the cops called on us. Times have changed but still need to be better.
I still love the black and white iconic decor and the complimentary sample. And I appreciate that you can ask for a bag with individual choices instead of having to purchase per pound.
I'm a creature of habit. I indulge in a block of vanilla walnut fudge and two cups of milk chocolate peanut clusters. My kiddo loves the truffles. I love the nostalgia. Interesting to think about how much of our finances have supported Sees. And so I digress.
This particular Sees always seems to be understaffed and wait times can be 15 minutes or more on the weekend. Lola was a doll working on her own and keeping the customers patient.
But the service is excellence with a smile.

Read moreNIRVANA. HEAVEN ON EARTH. It's very modest inside but the selection is enormous. Your choice of milk or dark. My favorites are the milk covered pineapple truffles, the milk covered lime truffles, the California brittle, The Scotchmallow, The Bordeaux, and everything in between from their lollipops to their nut clusters It is worth the trip. For many many years I patronized their store in the galleria in Houston Texas. Then I got married and I was able to go one time and they closed the Houston location. Then we went to San Diego to see our son graduate from the Marine corps and one of the primary stops that I absolutely would not waver on was the trip to See's Candies. It is my Eden. It is my joy. Fill my coffers fill my basket fill my casket with nothing but sees pineapple truffles. Just seeing them on Instagram brings me a joy that I cannot express in words. The joy and fulfillment of the goodness and the purity of their truffles cannot be described with words. If anyone ever has anything bad to say about See's candies they will one have to answer to me and two they must be related to Ebenezer Scrooge. This place is honestly the best. The employees are always clean and kind. The store is always immaculate. And the candy is always perfect. Do not sleep on...
