I tried to pay for my purchase early one morning with my Mastercard debit card with chip. The card reader initially declined the purchase, presumably because either the reader needed cleaning or my chip did. The clerk cleaned the card's chip with what appeared to be register paper. Despite this the reader declined the card again. I have had this card for several years so in my experience after 3 failed chip reads the reader allows a swipe. I mentioned this to the clerk who only seemed vaguely aware of this procedure. So he grudgingly seemed to agree & we went through what he claimed was the correct procedure. Maybe it was operator error or some peculiarity of the 7-11 store's reader so this process was unsuccessful. The clerk seemed vindicated of his skepticism of the swipe after 3 failed chip reads. I was skeptical that the clerk had done it correctly & suggested as much. At this point the clerk launched into a slanderous personal tirade against me which I believed was totally uncalled for. He said I made him launch his tirade. So I gave him cash for the purchase but he continued ranting. It is interesting to note that shortly afterward I took the same card to a nearby ATM where it worked the first time. I tried to deal with the clerk in good faith but he seemed to me more interested in trying to insult me which I...
Read moreRudest, most stupid interaction I've had in SF. I bought 2 waters, a soda, and 2 bags of chips. Check out, everything is fine. The cashier just looks at me when we are done. I ask "Can I get a bag?" he starts saying softly "You have 10 cents?" , Me: "No, I only have card. Do you want to charge me? Ring me up the 10 cent, I have to pay with card." They were saying "Yes, yes, 10 cents".
Thankfully some guy next to me was able to pick up the 10 cent so they gave me a bag to carry the items back to my hotel.
The guys running this place are just complete a-holes. Which is funny because when I went in we exchanged "hellos" and they seemed fine, until they wanted 10c for a bag (which I would have paid had they told me about it before checkout). Also I went here last night and they just gave me a bag?
Update: I found out in SF there is a tax for bags. I did not know this, these guys didn't explain it, and like I mentioned above they were just rude when handling the situation. I didn't care to pay the 10c, they should have included it in my purchase before I was...
Read moreI go to this store regularly to buy cigarettes when I run out during my workday. The staff always seemed a bit awkward (I always a feeling that they try to tease me or something) to me but I did not pay too much attention to that. I just need my cigs and then move on with my life. Today one of the clerks created a totally unnecessary drama. I was pointing at cigs and saying "blue" to identify their color. He somehow imagined that I shout on him and started demanded an apology. I from my part though that he does not understand my accent. I told him that there must have been a misunderstanding but let's move on. But he was still refusing to sell me cigs. Then he started talking something that we are nice people here. Then he finally sold me cigs but refused to give his name. Then I wanted to photograph him he started threatening me with cops. In the end, too weird experience and too much drama... Will go to another 7-11 when I run out of cigs. Also my impression that I paid about $ 1 more than in the 7-11 on Sutter (but I may be...
