Equinox in SF gets a somewhat bad rap on Yelp, probably because its crazy expensive (even after corporate discounts) and small compared to other locations. But let's be honest.... the amentities are amazing, the staff are all super friendly, and you don't need to fight for treadmills. Here are some highlights:
Pros: Pool: They have a small pool with 3 lanes, not a common offering at nearby gyms. It gets crowded and you can't reserve a lane, but you can double up. I think the best pool in the area is at Sports Club LA, the gym at the Four Seasons on Market St. Amenitites: Khiels. Need I say more?? They also sell Lululemon and other items at the store, all of which they will price match. Haven't had a chance to check out their cafe, but the smoothies look good. Equipment: There are actually enough treadmills to go around, and they also have cool machines less commonly available like special treadmills for people with bad knees. The equipment isn't especially unique, but clean and more spacious than Crunch. Referral Bonus: Don't forget to refer people, you get $100 or so in credit that you can apply towards your membership, spa, or other services!
Cons: Crowded Classes: I am not a huge fan of the classes because they were a bit boring and the ones I did like were so cramped that I couldn't even do the exercises (Beach Body). Some classes are totally available (cycling). None of them are by reservation, and I don't believe they limit class size. Confusing Hard to Navigate Layout: I also think that the layout of the floors is really confusing and it makes it hard to get around.
Overall, if you have the money to spend Equinox is a cool spot but I'd rather go to Sports Club LA for a top-tier gym that has a nicer pool, more space, and more classes. For those with basic gym needs (e.g. treadmill and classes), I'd recommend Crunch and be prepared for even worse...

The dressing room now include the self locking lockers which eliminates the need to carry extra weight in the form of your personal locker. That idea is appreciated even thought at first claimed some confusion.
The number of shower stalls has increased significantly and has practically eliminated the weight which used to be a common place at the peak hours.
The lockers are well maintained but it never hurts to launch a guy with the vacuum to suck all body hair from the floor on a continues bases.
The swimming pool is very nice. I did not noticed any major changes after the remodel.
The store upstairs is well stocked and has absolutely everything you might need during or after workout. I used it multiple times and always was able to find good quality products like earbuds, t-shirst, workout gloves and lotions at a reasonable cost.
The "Fuel" cafe is awesome. Gives your the perfect balanced meals before and after workout. The simple wholesome food is great.
I used the services of the the club's spa several times. The price for massages is at the top of the price tag but the quality of the massage and service itself is superlative. You get what you paid for.
Overall it's a fantastic club which offers a variety of classes, personal training, and great feel of an open...
Read moreEquinox Pine Street is a large, well-designed gym with clean facilities and standout architecture. The building itself adds to the experience - inside the old Pacific Stock Exchange. The front desk staff were very efficient and helpful.
Inside, there’s an Earth Bar near the entrance that serves some of my favorite smoothies and wellness drinks! Mostly organic and with very refreshing ingredients. The gym floor is fully stocked with machines and free weights, all in great condition and clearly maintained.
There’s a powerful steam room and a lap pool, both of which are great for recovery. Group fitness classes are available daily, with schedules clearly posted. The studios are clean and organized, with plenty of space between participants. Lighting is practical and calming.
The locker rooms are stocked with high-quality soaps and lotions — this is honestly one of the things that sets Equinox apart the most for me, these are some of my favorite products. The showers are private with strong water pressure, and everything is kept tidy. The only issue was the lack of a water fountain or refill station in the locker area.
Overall, it’s my favorite gym for a reason. Architecture, layout, cleanliness, products. Will be back, Thanks...
