Had a large party renting out 10+ machines and 2 VR bays, and a switch for 3 hours, we were only able to use 1 of the VR bays, we lost more than an hour of play time on PC's to technical issues with a game freezing mid match among multiple other log in issues. They only had one LAN enabled game requiring accounts for other games. They had 3 switch controllers (we wanted to play smash bro's ultimate. one of which was wired.), they had several X-Box controllers (we didnt really have a X-Box game that we wanted to play). The front desk staff tried their best to help they were just unable to really get us playing the games we wanted to play explaining they did not own CS Source, CS 1.6, or any other LAN games. The one LAN game that was recommended crashed after 1 sign in. We ended up playing fall guys for more than an hour. Not what I had planned. Lucky I had friends there. It was a big day for me and I feel they just didnt really have the services I would expect for a 10+person LAN.
If you go here as an individual I think it is great. For large parties make sure everyone has accounts for steam. We ran into a issue where only half of us were able to sign into our personal steam accounts. Blizzards battlenet stopped working after one match of SC2 no longer allowing us to play any blizzard games. Origin seemed okay. Ensure that they own requested games before arrival. They did not really understand that Counterstrike Source or 1.6 was not counterstrike Go for example. Not having access to the 2nd VR bay was unfortunate I wanted to have more of our guests play VR games. Only having 3 controllers for the Switch was not what we had expected either. Would really like to give a higher rating I just dont want other large parties to run into what I have run into.
*Adding a star for the owners response below. We appreciate local businesses. It was just a big day that I cant get back. Again if you are going in a small group or alone this seems great. 10+person group make sure everyone has the same games and sign in's to Blizzard, Origin, Steam to make sure everyone can play the...
Read moreI travel for work and have been all over the country. I’ve played at many different gaming cafes and lan centers. Some are great, some are awful. Gamer Planet deserves 5 stars but I will list some pros and cons.
Pros: One of the cheaper and more competitively priced gaming cafes I’ve ever been to. At the end of the day, we want to afford to play so this is great!
Large selection of games. Top of the line equipment - I’m a bigger guy and the chairs were pretty comfy and steady. Keyboards were smaller than I like but buttons were good. It’s common for keyboards to get beat up at these places. I saw a comment from a kid complaining about mouse accuracy after picking it up (99% of players do not need to worry about this) the kid himself probably isn’t playing at a high enough sensitivity to warrant the pick up anyways. Mouse was great for MOBA gameplay. Many players were playing fps and no one complained about their mouse. (I was there all day and they were full all day)
They have 24 hour access with some membership types. I’ve never seen this and if I lived in the area, would certainly take advantage of this.
Clean and organized considering the lack of employees.
Cons: Employees are not there at all times to help with troubleshooting. It’s common practice for employees to update games daily - here you will be updating your game on your own dime
League of Legends client crashed after each game (this is due to increased security measures and have experienced it other places in the past; more of a LoL client issue)
There is a weird lag and delay when navigating menus and launching games. (Likely due to coin mining in the background - also a common occurrence at...
Read moreThis was my third time coming to Gamer Planet. The first time, which was maybe two months ago, was perfect, no issues at all; however the past two times I went, there’s been some pretty major issues. The second time I went, the game I wanted to play wasn’t updated and I asked the only staff available if there was something she could do, like give me and my partner another computer where the game would probably be updated. Unfortunately, she didn’t seem like she wanted to help at all and told us we could lock our computers as the game updated which shouldn’t affect the time. The timer was still going down with the computer locked and I tried to get her attention only to find her napping on the couch in the middle of the room with her AirPods in both ears, so we left. The third time, the same staff member was working and the game still wasn’t updated, although this was a couple of weeks after the second time. The lady said they should all be updated and we showed her our screens. Another customer also had to wait for the same game to be updated on their computer. We had two hours added to make up for it, which it took exactly that much time for the game to update. The update was only 7GBs and the internet was really unstable as it went (I could see the download details on the Epic Games Launcher). The game was still laggy after playing a bit, then after about 10 minutes, everyone’s computer in the lobby crashed and restarted. What about the staff member you may ask? She was warned about it happening by another customer and was told to contact her superiors, and when the computers finally crashed, everyone walked out the lobby and she was still just sitting there...
