I am agreeing with the review from 2 months ago. He put 5 stars, but if you look at the review, it is not a positive review and reflects my thoughts as well.. we attended awaken for about a year. We began noticing things that seemed a little off about 6 months ago. This is not a negative review of the congregation or various ministries or leaders in those ministries. We found there to be many wonderful people attending awaken and built some lasting relationships there. We left with no ill will or offense of any kind. This is a concern with the top down leaders (the head of all awaken churches where the culture comes from and the pastors that have chosen to “drink the cool aid” for lack of a better word. I felt convicted to warn prospective church goers after encountering instances, ideology, and actions that contradict the word of God. . What we witnessed was a “man centered” focus where honoring leaders had turned into a worship of them. It went well beyond honor. We saw most pastors (except one) take glory on Sunday mornings, after several minutes of praise of man, that was ultimately for God alone. We saw Jurgen, head of all awakens , receive an oddly enormous amount of adulations and praise. We saw arrogance on a couple of the pastors. We saw contradictions with the Bible. During awaken’s big donation drive, vision builders, Jurgen, who addressed us in a video, proceeded to tell the congregation that he and his wife give 6 figures every year to vision builders. This directly opposed the Bible where we are told to give in secret. “so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” This scripture shows a direct disobedience of the word. We also witnessed an awaken pastor from California who speaks here on rotation with his wife directly contradict the Bible. This was several months ago. He proceeded to throw his mother under the bus for a solid 20 minutes in his sermon. This pastor talked poorly of her in ways that surprised us and dishonored her. This mom is still alive and in relationship with this pastor. He made jokes hoping she was not watching online. The Bible tells us to honor our parents. This does not mean it’s ok to expose her to hundreds of people. I found this quite egregious. We also witnessed a prosperity gospel. This church emphasized money in a way I have never witnessed. We listened to weeks of sermons on money. We saw videos of many of the pastors large homes and property with drones showing us massive multi million dollar homes with a promise that we too could all have our dream homes if we give to vision builders. We certainly do believe in tithing, offerings, and the concept of provision and blessing as we trust the lord, but prosperity gospel teaches that God wants every believer to be wealthy, and the way to achieve this is to give to their particular church. We saw zero transparency on how the money was specifically allocated. “Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” Luke 12:15. Not all blessings are material, and I longed for these pastors to focus on non material blessings. Lastly, there is a total lack of doctrine on “dying to self”. There was a lack of doctrine on suffering well, taking up our cross and following Him. There was a complete lack of going out into the community to serve. They appeared to provide large amounts of programming, events, weekend getaways, that served the congregation (for exorbitant prices) but no praying the streets, serving the homeless, serving the imprisoned, serving the widow and orphan. It was a lot of fancy pop worship music, loud hyped up cheering and music to manipulate emotions, and fancy commercials on their pricey events. They used a manipulation technique of hyping up emotions that is a very typical technique used by cults in order to gain approval and acceptance of their messaging. Any church that preaches a doctrine that does not perfectly align with the word is deceiving their...

I would’ve never thought that I would still be in this church. Awaken has created an atmosphere for God to shift things in my life. I got free from addiction, past trauma and depression. My kids are doing so much better in a healthy community that talks about truth covered with love. They loved me where I was at but loved me enough to not leave me there. My marriage is so much better. I had no idea how much dysfunction I was bringing into my marriage untill I started seeing what healthy marriages look like. The leaders are loving and amazing people. So much wisdom and knowledge and they continue to pour into me and my family even today. Our campus pastors MATT & LAUREN are the most loving people. The heart they have for others and for Gods kingdom is one of the many reasons me and my family are planted...
