Ok so my wife recently left a review, and I feel inclined to leave a 2nd review because I can't seem to find a way to respond to the owner's reply to her comments.
The 1 star review is for a lack of customer care regarding the owner's reply to my wife's review.
Let me start by saying my wife almost never complains about the food she eats. She is the type to get served someone else's order by mistake, and simply go ahead and eat it rather than make a fuss. I say this to preface that she may not have felt comfortable vocalizing her concerns in person.
Simply Thai's owner in her reply refused to acknowledge the possibility my wife's concerns were legitimate. Not only that, the owner attempted to discredit her comments by saying "99% of our customers" would not agree. The owner stated my wife's attempted to "hurt [their] business with [her] 'bogus' review." Really?
Instead of considering the comments as honest feedback, and attempting to create an advocate by offering to make it right, or simply promise to do better in the future, the owner's reply was belligerent.
If indeed "99%" of Simply Thai's customers would disagree with my wife's review, then there should be no need to disparage what she said. Speaking from a position of confidence, the best solution in my opinion, would be to chalk the review up as a fluke/missed opportunity. Responding by reaching out rather than tearing down would have been a much more productive reply to the review, and might have even influenced my wife to change her opinion.
Instead, the owner's reply seems indicative of an insecurity that indeed the comments are accurate, and perhaps other customers may feel the same way.
I sincerely hope the owner will be a bit more circumspect when receiving sincere feedback in the future, and not be so quick to disrespect other...
Read moreI’m very very sad Simply Thai has changed!! we ordered chicken TomKha to-go. Simply Thai is the only place that I have loved the TomKha soup! First of all, it used to be $13.95. Today we were charged $18.95 plus tax. One large soup for $21 that we picked up. Sticker shock for starters. They had explained that with new owners the recipe had changed in the way that it doesn’t have corn in it anymore. We asked her if they still do the same with the coconut milk and the recipe. She said it was the same coconut milk base. It just didn’t have the baby corn. When we got home, it is much runnier than it has ever been. The flavor was OK, but it was not what I always looked forward to and craved. And the only ingredients added to the base is chicken, mushrooms, and tomatoes (old soup didn’t have tomatoes.) My husband hates tomatoes. and the old soup also used to have green and red bell peppers, cilantro, and onions. Not anymore.
It used to be a very white cream sauce. Now it’s beige.
She told us Nali had retired six months ago and sold. I’m very sad. It’s one of my favorite restaurants in the valley. It used to be anyway.
We will miss you and your crew Nali! Gave the new owners the benefit of the doubt and thought well, we will try it. After sticker shock, for one large soup, I was still hoping it would taste as good.
I thought I would go back but now I am positive I don’t want to spend $21 on a bowl of thin soup that was underwhelming.
Glad Nali is able to enjoy retirement. We will miss you very much!! Sadly we won’t be returning to Simply Thai.
The new owner should probably change the name. It does not hold true to the Simply Thai that we know and loved for years.
My husband just reminded me that we used to get a serving of rice with our TomKha without asking. We did...
Read moreThis is the first review I've put online. My husband and I got the tom kah, yellow curry, and pad kee mao. The staff were great and attentive despite the fact they were short staffed. But everything else was awful. The soup was fine. All the food was lukewarm. We checked reviews while waiting for our food and they are accurate. Both the curry and noodles we got were stangely sweet and had no spiciness at all. Curry isn't always spicy but the drunken noodle dish we got is my favorite Thai noodle dish and it's isn't like anything I've had anywhere else. We told our server that we'd like to pay for the soup and tip, but that we wanted a refund on the curry and noodles.
Everything aside, our experience wasn't awful, until we were leaving. On our way out, the owner/manager stopped us for no reason. She went and got a stack of the tickets from the orders today to show us how (apparently) insanely busy they had been. She also told us about her loyal customers that she had plenty of, that she is from Bangkok, Thailand, etc. We told her that's great, but that we still didn't like the food. She talked and bragged about her many loyal customers for about 5 minutes and tried to give us store credit instead of a refund. It was extremely unprofessional especially for a restaurant owner/manager. I can see why she moved from Thailand, no one with any experience with Thai food would want to eat her cooking. It took everything in me to not find my inner Karen, but ultimately we just wanted to get out and eat somewhere with better customer service...
