Visited at 5:20 pm Friday evening. Nice place, not too crowded. Odd...in-house music is NOT Mexican...kinda weird against the decor. They also have multiple TV screens going.
Seated right away and greeted by waitress within a minute; ordered a Diet Coke and the El Ray main course. House chips and two dips arrived soon after (pic 1)
Chips are great! Fresh, crunchy and hot. The guacamole-stlye dip (pic 2) was way too thin for me but had decent flavor. The salsa dip (pic 3) surprisingly, was quite warm (temperature-wise). It had a rich flavor, but sadly, was too thin to stay on the chip. My hand and the table were soon covered with dribbles (pic 4).
Six minutes later, the El Ray dish arrived (pic 5). The large dish was perfectly plated and on a nicely warmed plate. Everything looked delicious!
The El Ray comes with a cheese Enchilada, pork Enchilada (both covered with chili con carné), crunchy beef taco, refried beans and Spanish rice, with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes and fresh guacamole on the side.
Both Enchiladas were awesome! Nice blend of cheeses in the cheese Enchilada and rich, perfectly cooked pulled pork in the pork Enchilada. Both were covered with a delicious chili con carné - a perfect match for the Enchiladas.
The hard beef taco was also quite good, with nicely flavored ground beef and fresh lettuce, tomatoes and grated cheddar cheese already on it. I added some of the salsa to finish it off. Yum!
The Spanish rice was also rich and flavorful, adding a perfect balance to the main course.
Sadly, the refried beans were lacking. Bland and having a burnt smell and aftertaste, they ruined what would have been a sumptuous meal. Could've been a one-off, but they should be taste-tested throughout the shift. Too bad.
Service-wise, lacking in attention. I got no drink refills without asking for them - even leaving my glass empty while walking by. Water or soda. The waitress never checked back on me after the main dish arrived, although a shift manager came by later, after I was finished. I talked with him about the beans.
I ordered the Sopapias at the end of the meal. It took forever to arrive. After about twelve minutes, I asked my server to check on it. She told me it would be "soon". Three minutes later, they arrived.
Four medium-sized, cinnamon-and-sugar sprinkled Sopapias nestled together on a rectangular plate, with hot chocolate syrup, fresh summer berries and a bowl of vanilla ice cream finishing out the tray (pic 6). Wow! Great finish and...worth the wait. Really! This dish saved the 4-star rating.
The Sopapias were light and flaky, perfectly deep-fried. Fresh, scrumptious raspberries and blackberries were tucked around a serving of delicious hot chocolate sauce. Expecting honey, but instead getting a delightful serving of tasty vanilla ice cream, topped off with fresh mint finished out the dessert. Outstanding! I could only eat 3 of the 4 Sopapias, sadly. But what a great finish!
To recap: Chips & dips - 4 stars Enchiladas - 5 stars Taco - 4.5 stars Spanish Rice - 5 stars Refried Beans - 1 star Sopapias - 5 stars Service - 3 stars
Total - 4 stars
Overall, a nice evening and food. Better service and refried beans would have made this visit better. Bur, still,...
Read moreAs a seasoned traveler, I've had the privilege of tasting a variety of cuisines from around the world. Yet, stepping into Los Cucos, I found myself on a unique culinary journey that transcended my previous experiences. This place is not just a restaurant, it's a vibrant celebration of Mexican cuisine that has rightfully earned its title as the best Mexican food restaurant.
The shrimp at Los Cucos is a revelation. Each morsel is plump, spongy, and bursting with flavor, a testament to the culinary prowess of the chefs. It's not just the best shrimp I've ever tasted, it's a culinary landmark that sets a new standard for seafood.
The steak and sausage are equally impressive, cooked to perfection and seasoned to enhance their natural flavors. The balance of flavors is a testament to the skill and care that goes into each dish, a harmony of taste that is hard to find.
The beans and rice are okay, bland at best buy that's okay because they provide balance when combined with the explosive flavors of everything else. The chips and salsa are comforting.
But the real magic lies in the handmade tortillas. They are a labor of love, each one crafted with care and precision. The result is a tortilla that is soft, warm, and full of flavor, the perfect canvas for the symphony of flavors that Los Cucos offers.
Los Cucos is more than just a pit stop, it's a destination in itself. It's a culinary journey through the heart of Mexico, with a menu to prove it, that leaves you with a lingering taste of authenticity. The food is exceptional, the atmosphere is inviting, and the experience is one that will stay with you long after you've left. Whether you're a fan of Mexican cuisine, or just a fan of great food in general, Los Cucos is a must-visit on any traveler's itinerary. We finished our plates before even thinking about...
Read moreWent here about two weeks ago the restaurant atmosphere is beautiful and reminded me of back home, they had a promo if you sign up for texts you get a sampler, with three or four different items and you get a few of each, when the plate came out we got a big plate with 4 tiny items one of each nothing like the picture on the menu or that was texted to me. They were also cold and came with the food. I wanted one of their margaritas frozen, they didn’t have any on weekend????but I was given a menu with frozen drinks. I never been to a restaurant that had the robots so when it came I figured since it’s a robot we grab our own food, when it comes and STOPS at your table. the server came running yelling at me not to grab the food bc it wasn’t ours. Then why did it stop at our table with what we ordered. We had to wait and someone came out and gave us the plates and the sampler we got was not a sampler like the picture and it was cold compared to to the rest of our food. It literally had a single nacho one taquito and one quesadilla and one jalapeño bomber. Idk if that’s what they are called here but looked like. Our plates were pretty good and not cold like the sampler that also came out with our food. The draft beer wasn’t cold. It was a weekend so I thought it would be better and a margarita would of been great with the food as they looked so good on the menu. We also sat back in corner by where they cook and the wall doesn’t go up to ceiling so you’ll feel that salsa in your throat as it’s being cooked. I had to keep drinking water. That wasn’t bad tho it reminded me of my grandmas home as a kid and my cousins crying they couldn’t breath and their eyes were burning lol. It was a...
