Your enjoyment of this experience greatly depends on the driver that you get. We booked both loops online, and it split us, putting one loop on Thursday and the other on Friday.
On Thursday, we did not enjoy ourselves. The driver mostly pointed out his favorite restaurants and the other places he works while throwing in a handful of inappropriate jokes about vortexes being good for divorce, By the time we were returning and he made a joke about it being a good thing he wasn't transgender or his name would be Jennifer we didn't feel a tip was in order, but we both gave him $5, the lowest we each had, out of guilt since everyone else was doing it.
On Friday, we had a different driver who has been in Sedona for over 30 years. While we were waiting to leave, he entertained us with music and other acts. Upon leaving, his wealth of knowledge about the area was profound. It was hard to hear either driver in the back, maybe another set of speakers would help, but this driver told us the names of rock formations that we saw, explained the history of the area, and really seemed to know his stuff. Since this isn't a hop on/hop off, the driver makes all the difference. When we got back to leave, we almost asked if we could stay on and ride the other loop again with him since we really didn't feel like we got it the day before.
We highly recommend this tour if you get a good driver, and there is no guarantee you'll get one. We also recommended sitting toward the front or middle to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy colleagues and I (all non-white) drove to Sedona for a day trip. We called ahead and reserved 4 spots on 5:00 Tour B - which was doable over the phone. The woman on the phone, Smokey, also offered us the sunset tour which departed at 4:30 - to which we said sure! We got stuck in traffic so I attempted to call to let her know that we're not going to make the sunset tour, but we're still on for 5:00 Tour B - but no one answered.
We got to the storefront at 4:45, but the doors were locked and there was a sign that said they were closed. The woman, Smokey, finally opened up a few minutes later. When I started talking to her explaining that I called and we reserved the Tour B she looked at our group and her attitude quickly changed. She said she had to check with the driver who was sitting behind her to see if we could still tour. She went to the back of the office turned her back to us and whispered with the driver and then came back to us to tell us that the driver is feeling ill and we can't go on the tour because her throat is hurting and she can't talk - even though the driver was sitting there smoking her vape?
So funny how over the phone we were all set, but once they saw the colored folk walk in, their attitude and the situation quickly changed.
Don't waste your money. Go someplace else. This left us with a horrible taste in our mouths for Sedona, and we probably won't ever be back!

While still in town, details were light, but there were a few interesting tidbits around more famous residents and filming locations. Outside of town, the guide provided a history of the region that felt extremely shallow, referring to ingenious people as Indians and not knowing the names of actual tribes of the area. This, along with not being able to explain how certain areas got their names, forced us to question the recounting.
Editorial: Fay Canyon is named for Alvin Fay, who founded one of Arizona's first territorial countries in the 1860s.
Where the guide seemed to come to life was when speaking about Sedona's magical vortices. Here, they recount how they were first named in the 1980s and recalled several stories from their time as a tour guide. This included a story around how he was able to help a stroke victim regain use in an arm after 7 years. I feel like the tour would have been much improved had he been able to provide this level of detail in general.
