I like this place a lot as a local card shop in Houston. I would rate this as a top tier destination, in both the sports world and the Pokemon world. Many LCS I've been to double as a shop and a place to play locally, usually more on board games and other TCGs like Magic or Yugioh. This place does not have that; however that's the only trade-off about this place because every other department I would say they are really awesome at, as follows:
Customer service - great! Guys there are friendly and happy to do business with you. Product selection - fantastic, better than most. One of their real strong suits. Average places only dabble and have some booster boxes and regular product, however this place really does have a nice and varied selection of stuff! I like Pokemon and they had product from most of SwSh era stuff but also some of that uncommon stuff too. Love to see it. Singles case selection - fantastic, better than most. Same as the previous bullet point, a lot of places I checked out in Houston had very sparse and uninteresting things in their singles cards case but here again they had both quantity of cards to look through, as well as hot/rare cards on display that people definitely will buy. Plenty of modern to look at, vintage singles too, as well as graded cards, they got an awesome selection of all three. I always try to look here to see if they got anything. Pricing - competitive. I would say their pricing is both fair and good. I keep up with markets and I ain't mad at their prices, they're nice. The one other thing to note in this department that I really appreciated is that when I tried to bulk buy a couple cards, the owners there gave me an extremely fair price. Real awesome of them, they real ones.
Sports is not something I currently collect but I am vaguely familiar with some of their current product. When it comes to sports, no doubt this place is your destination for it. I really don't know where else LCS's do sports in H-town but it's not many I can say that. About 1/3 of the store had sports sealed product and of course their singles and graded stuff too. I am sure sports card collecting at this place is great, in comparison to anywhere else here locally. They also had a wall of Funko pops too, some of them looked rare and unique; they got some of that too. I heard they do grading services with them, but you can inquire yourself about that. Again, Pokemon product here is real good. I am more happy about their stuff here compared to other places I've tried. Also this place pretty clean too and not dirty. But yeah this place as a local card shop, one of the better places right now in Houston....
Read moreNew review 1/15/25: Updating my review to 5 stars from 4! We visited over the previous weekend and loved their selection so much that we had to come back a second time (we literally made it our first stop for the day before even getting breakfast/coffee). There were two people working this time which was great because we were able to be helped quicker than the last time. I was looking specifically for one card I fell in love with and found it which totally made my day! Not only was the price more than perfect, but the man helping us was very kind and helped pull out cards that sat way low so we could see them closer. He was patient, kind, and all I can say is we left very happy and this has officially become my favorite shop for Pokemon cards. This place practices old fashioned business and I’m totally here for it- thank you Gem Mint and see y’all again soon! Side note- I had mentioned in my first review my back was hurting from a lot of standing, I totally missed that they have seating. I’m a doofus and didn’t notice before.
Original review (the weekend prior): My boyfriend and I found a couple Pokemon cards we loved for a great deal and we left very happy. However, we wanted to see way more than what we found but couldn’t because it was just one man (I’m assuming the owner) working the store at the time and it was taking a bit of time to move along since he was helping a couple of guys with sports cards and the general area was blocked. I normally wouldn’t mind waiting but I have back issues so standing for a while didn’t help it. Also I don’t agree with the pricing of the Pokemon cards sitting in the box, I think anything that isn’t sleeved and put in a binder should be 50 cents or lower. We overheard him talking with the baseball customers and we can tell he is a smart business man, and he was again more than fair with his single card pricing, so we’ll definitely be...
