I had an awful experience at Dillards in Tampa international plaza & Iād like to share my experience. I was shopping in the home goods area looking at silverware for my new House. I decided Iād get this cheese cutting set & also needed a pair of shoes. An older white woman, heavy set named āMonicaā approached me asking if she could hold my items at the register for me. I found this peculiar & politely declined. I noticed She continued to follow me around the store. I decided to get some shoes from another section;As I was trying on a pair of shoes a security guard approached me stating that I could not have the silverware with me in the shoe section. This makes no sense to me as I was not finished shopping ;which I expressed to him & I asked to speak with a manager. I noticed Monica had followed me down to this section of the department. Iām sure this ordeal was her doing as she approached . Over the walkie radio speaker another security member exclaimed āheās gone aināt heā. I was embarrassed & truly disappointed as a Black man being Racially profiled in the store. I shop here often & was applauded & saddened by this incident. The manager Erin came & apologized to me. I purchased my items & left. It is 2023 & people are still holding malice & racism to their core & it is a shame. As a Healthcare Professional & Businessman I take care of people from all walks of life with no prejudice & professional care because at the end of the day we are all Human. While Iād like to be positive & believe this to be an isolated incident, it has been a recurring theme at this establishment in my experience. Monica is a familiar face to me being a regular customer here at Dillards. Which I have been doing for 3 days my estimated wait time was for 15 min which turned into a hour and 15 min to where the just disconnected and I have been calling and calling I can not get through. I finally reached back out to international Plaza and pled my concerns on them the lady who picked up said OK let me put you on a brief hold and Iāll look up your order and she never came back on briefly. I just find it very frustrating to try to contact these people just to get an answer on my order that may not have been ready for the same day pick up but doesnāt have a delivery date normally this wouldnāt bother me but Iām leaving forTexas tomorrow which I ordered a nice jacket because itās going to be cold there as well as some boots. And I just want to know where it is I cannot even get an answer everyone has been extremely rude at international Plaza that I have been speaking to you the first time I called they told me they could not do that look it up I had to call customer service the second lady told me she would put me on a brief hold and look it up but never came back to the line I find this unprofessional and very dishonest. I will never be shopping here ever again because I feel like customer service is the most important thing. I am a palled at their behavior. Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām honestly still shocked at what happened here. My family and I were waiting by the exit right before closing ā literally just waiting a few minutes for our ride. We werenāt causing any problems or ignoring staff, just standing by the doors ready to walk out.
Out of nowhere, this one security guard (a tall African guy, so management knows exactly who Iām talking about) came over and started yelling at us with zero respect or professionalism. No warning, no polite request, nothing. Just straight attitude and aggression for no reason.
My dad is 80 years old and has knee pain ā he leaned slightly on a clothing rack for support ā and this guy starts raising his voice at him like he committed a crime. An elderly man deserves basic respect, and this guard clearly doesnāt understand that.
I had to step in because he kept talking down to us and trying to intimidate us. Weāre customers, not criminals. And we were literally already on our way out ā waiting five minutes for our ride is not a reason to treat people like garbage.
Meanwhile, the manager and the other security staff were completely respectful and told us it was fine. They acted like normal humans. This one guard was the only problem ā acting rude, yelling, and even smoking outside like he runs the place. Totally unprofessional behavior.
This guy has a serious attitude problem and shouldnāt be anywhere near customers, let alone in a security role. He acted aggressive and out of control for absolutely no reason. Until this gets dealt with, I wonāt be coming back to this location.
