Newbury Comics — Local services in Town of Clarkstown

Racist experience. Was looking around the store for a shirt to wear for a Jujistu Kaisen themed party. I'm fine with not being greeted into the store but I was followed around the store as if I didn't belong there. The guy associate kept acting like he was "folding" or "fixing" clothes wherever I was. Even walked completely across the store twice to check out some more of the long sleeve shirts and was followed in the same way both times.

I get it people steal things, but to not even greet me and ask if I need help is insane. Ive worked in retail for yearss and thats the first thing we're trained to do when people act suspicious. Can a black man not enjoy anime? Just by walking around your store looking at shirts, that was the question going through my head....

If you're going to call yourself something with Comics in the title, the expectation is that the store isn't going to be 90% merch (t-shirts, records, random unrelated books, etc.) and 10% comics/graphic novels/manga.

Newbury Comics may be a shop well stocked in these other items but going in expecting a good selection of comics, as one would given the name, one is left sorely disappointed. The back wall, maybe half of it, was it for single issues and the manga selection was mediocre at best, but hidden at the back as well.

The randomness was annoying as well. Having related merch, such as Neil Gaiman's published books make sense when selling his comics, but the kitschy books were taking up shelf space that could have been taken...

I really like this store. The staff are friendly, helpful and accommodating. I am so glad they have new releases for the current books. They don't have back issues, however they do move the books around in order to make room and place the new releases. In addition, I really enjoy their Funko pop collection if you are a Funko pop collector this is the place to visit. I am definitely one who is pleased I can come there to buy my books there. They sell vinyl records, different T shirt designs. James, the store manager is very helpful and also is an artist. During these tough and difficult times come out and support this store.
