I’m from NYC but I visited White Oak Bridal three times over the course of two months and each visit was a wonderful experience thanks to Rose!
By my first visit, I had already visited a few bridal shops in NYC that had been fine but kind of uncomfortable as a plus-sized woman. Though bridal shops may claim to be size-inclusive, having samples made only for smaller bodies does not really feel consistent with those claims. Wedding dress shopping should be a joyful experience, and being squeezed into dresses that are made with bodies like mine as an afterthought kind of sucks the joy out of the experience.
I’m happy to say that White Oak Bridal puts its money (or samples) where its mouth is. Though no dress was the perfect size (as is standard for such a customizable thing like a wedding dress), it was truly a next-level experience to try on samples close to my body size. I got to focus solely on feeling beautiful in the dresses, and isn’t that what the wedding dress shopping experience should be about??
When I did fall in love with a rare dress that only had a small sample size in the store, Rose was immediately apologetic, and it was a genuine apology from someone who truly understands the impact of not having a size that fits. She helped me take pictures of the dress as best as we could anyway and immediately resolved to secure a loaner dress in a bigger size so that I could experience it fully—anyone could’ve just pushed a different dress or let those initial pictures be enough, but the effort in making sure I got to try on this dress (which, spoiler alert, turned out to be The One!) said a lot about Rose’s dedication to her clients.
I also appreciated Rose’s patience with me when I came back not once but twice to try on this dress and another I was torn between. She was always supportive and helpful, and NEVER made me feel bad about indecisive or like I was wasting her time, even when there was no guarantee I’d end up buying a dress from her.
I’d highly recommend Rose and White Oak Bridal to NYC brides, especially those who haven’t had the best experience with size inclusivity in shops in NYC! The Metro North train ride was super easy and the walk from the Tarrytown train station to the shop was short (though there is a bit of a hill to traverse to get up there—no shame in taking breaks like I did while walking up there, it’s totally worth it)!...
Read moreI had the most incredible experience at White Oak Bridal. I found the shop through Google when looking for bridal shops close to me. I was drawn in not just by the beautiful designers showcased on their site, but by the shop's ethos and how important it is for Rose to carry size-inclusive designers. I've fluctuated in different sizes my whole life from a Size 12-20, and I remember what it's like to cry in fitting rooms because nothing fit properly or they didn't carry clothes in my size.
But any fear, frustration or anxiety I felt going into the wedding dress shopping process completely vanished when I stepped into Rose's boutique. Her and her father were extremely welcoming and made me and my family feel comfortable from the moment we arrived. They provided an experience that felt both luxurious (you have the whole shop to yourself during the appointment!) and comforting (Rose had so many dress options that fit me). Rose creates a safe place for women that are often excluded in the fashion and bridal industries. Plus, it was just so much fun! Trying on dresses with Rose made me feel like I was playing dress up with a friend I've known for ages.
Rose has 10+ years of experience, and you can tell she's an expert--she answered all of my questions about dress styles and custom options. She asked her own questions to help guide our search for the perfect dress, and then she gave me space to see how I felt in each one I chose to try on, listening to my feedback and thoughts, and pulling other options based on that. She provided suggestions when I needed them and even had me look at some styles outside of my comfort zone, just for fun (one of them made it into my top two choices from the day!).
Overall, I cannot say enough good things about this bridal shop. No matter what size dress you wear, you will have a wonderful experience shopping for your dream wedding dress in...
Read moreLoved the entire experience- had fun trying out options, found the perfect dress by following Rose's recommendations, and she had it ready a little early even with a customization!
Excellent shop if you're looking for a warm, welcoming atmosphere that is not overwhelming. I needed this as I am not the most fashionable and only had a vague idea of what I wanted. Rose was very kind and down to Earth with my whole group, using her extensive experience to guide us through the process.
Rose really took the time to get to know me as we started picking out dresses to try on. This helped her recommend a dress I hadn't taken off the rack myself and it was perfect! She also used a very tactful approach when inquiring about my budget and had plenty of reasonably priced options. She was also very responsive via email when I had questions about customizations.
Great varied selection with a lot of local designers. This also helped when we expressed interest in customizations, as she simply reached out to the designer directly. As a note to plus-sized brides, there were plenty of plus-sized options.
She was not pushy at all which we loved, giving us time to think over our options. We went to other shops that were pressuring us to make a decision right away, claiming we needed to pick a dress 10 months in advance and were already late in the game. Those shops seemed too interested in making the sale.
As with most bridal shops, be sure to leave plenty of time between ordering the dress and the wedding date. Seems like most places need at least 6 months to go from ordering to tailoring to the final product.
Note that White Oak Bridal does not do in-house tailoring (some shops offered this, some did not), so that will have to be...
