We choose to rent demo skis here, looking to rent 3 - 4 days. In hind sight I would say they had very limited inventory of rental boots and demo skis and an unfair policy regarding refunds for unavailable rental equipment. We were told we could try multiple sets, as in a different set of skis every day. In good faith we paid for 3 days up front. Our first set of skis where not to be the best for the conditions on the mountain, and my left boot was bothering my foot. So in the AM of day 2 we went in to get different gear. They did not have another pair of boots in my size, nor a pair of demo skis in the style, all mountain carvers, in mid to upper price range and a length I would potentially buy, remember we wanted to demo ski's we might purchase. When we informed them we had to pass, would not ski on ski’s that didn’t work for the conditions, that I would never consider purchasing and a pair of boots that bothered my feet. We said we would rent elsewhere for the day, we were told they do not do refunds, only store credit. When I objected, a manager got involved and when I told him I was not informed of that policy when I rented and that I do not see that policy here on the agreement, he told me they had a sign at the front register. I looked for the sign and it was a small circle on the side of the cash register that said all sales are final, refunds are for store credit only. We were renting, why would that apply? Who would have thought! As they did not have another set of skis or boots in my size I strongly objected. Another manager or maybe the owner stepped in, he offered to set up a new pair of demo skis in my size, which I accepted as I felt we had little choice, but I was still stuck with an old worn out set of boots and fair to poor over all experience. Read moreGiving this place 4 stars because of the friendliness of service and price for rentals. At the mountain, it is $49. Not a lot of savings but it's still something. The pricing are as follows: $30 for ski/ snowboard full package rental. $5 for the helmet. $45 for the performance package.
The rental people do know what they are doing and do a good job in tuning your board/skis before you take them out. The reason for the lack of 5 stars is because of the selection of boards for their performance package. I tried that package and the boards were definitely better than regular rentals but I do expect a higher quality of "performance" boards. They pride themselves on it being an olympic town. Why not have better equipment? Of course there's cost analysis but I do believe they can do better. I did not take a look at what the mountain (Whiteface) offers in terms of rental but from what they tell me, the options aren't that much better.
There is another store in town that does rentals, Cunnningham. For the life of me I could not find this store. One guy said walk towards the Olympic center, before the fork in the road, it is on your left hand side across the street. I walked to the fork in the road and couldn't find it. I only saw Sotheby.

Helpful people everywhere would spend time with me bringing various options but unfortunately nothing worked. I want to be somewhat comfortable in the boots before punching and stretching them. Came to LPSB, saw K2 BFC model that, based on my research, could’ve worked, and even saw my size on display. After waiting for 15 minutes with no one talking to me I decided to approach the guy at the counter who was chatting with his buddy (not a customer) and asked whether I could try them. He immediately and somewhat rudely told me that I need to pay $45 for a fitting (would be applied towards a purchase if I end up buying them) and told me that I just want to try them and buy them online.
