I think my review just was deleted so I will try again. Second time we went to Generations. Initially, on our first trip to Lake Placid in June, we were treated like kings and queens at this restaurant. The food was great and the service wonderful. This time we invited our son and his family. Never have I regretted recommending a place to anyone until now. We stayed at Golden Arrow Resort, and thus got complementary breakfast for two w/our room. Service was slower than slow..leaving some to leave while standing on line waiting to be seated. We would of left as well if it hadn't been for the complementary breakfasts. We were told that there were FREE re-fills on juice and coffee both times that we ate at Generations. Great!! Then during the course of our breakfast, the server was sent out with a message from VICTORIA (management) that if we wanted any more pineapple juice we would have to pay for it. What a NERVE!! It's like telling someone at a dinner buffet that they have gone up for enough food and that if they want anymore food, they will have to pay for another dinner. I have never been treated so RUDELY. What my family went through is UNACCEPTABLE. For Victoria's information, I only had ONE refill. Others in our group also only had one re-fill, while some had two re-fills at most. If you have a problem with that, then you are in the wrong business. You will end up costing Golden Arrow, and your restaurant MORE money than the cost of a pineapple juice. Don't let the servers say that you can have re-fills at no cost, if you don't want to do so. On top of that, my son's egg benedict had to go back to the kitchen because it was not cooked correctly. My egg's benedict was not cooked correctly either but I just ate it and never sent it back. My daughter's pancakes were cold, and bacon was put on the same plate, even though she requested that the waitress put it on a separate plate since she is a vegetarian. She was going to give the bacon to her niece. She sent her food back as well. As a business person, I realize that the cost of food has sky rocketed and waste costs a business tremendously, but that being said there is no excuse for what happened to my family and I. We are pleasant customers, who appreciate a good server. On top of that, we are great tippers. Our waitress was aghast that we were giving her the tip that we were. She wanted to refuse it, perhaps because she felt badly of how insulting it was to us to be told that we had "way too many re-fills, and that we would be charged for the next one." We practically forced her to take it, as we left with a feeling of "what just happened?" I will think differently about visiting Lake Placid, Golden Arrow, and Generations. Without tourist, you don't make money, and risk losing your jobs. Think about that next time you send a server out with a message like you...
Read moreThe staff at this restaurant made my friend and I feel completely unwelcomed throughout our lunch.
We walked into the restaurant and asked if we could be seated at a table in the backroom that overlooks the water. The hostess said that the server who handles these tables was busy and suggested that we sit in the interior of the restaurant (without views). Initially, we agreed and sat down in the very front of the restaurant, but after my friend saw that the backroom had over half of its tables open (only three tables were taken by small parties), my friend asked the hostess again if it would be OK to sit in the backroom. She checked with some of her coworkers and then proceeded to seat us in the backroom. The restaurant really was not that busy.
At this point forward, the whole experience was terrible. We were seated in the backroom by the hostess, and I sensed immediately that they were going to make this into an issue. The server came over to our table and was very coarse and short with us, from the way he introduced himself (“I’m John. I carry the food.”) to taking our orders and paying the bill. It was clear that he didn’t want to serve us. We kept it very simple by ordering two entrees (which he mixed up when bringing them out to us). None of the staff (including the hostess at the entrance) exchanged a “Thanks”, “goodbye”, or “have a nice day” on our way out.
The sad part is that the food was decent. The front-of-the-house staff just ruined the experience.
It’s not overly difficult to accommodate these types of requests at a restaurant. Instead, this staff wanted to be jerks over a small accommodation request. I wish I had stuck to my instinct by getting up and leaving as opposed to enduring that type of behavior...
Read moreWe were a party of 8. We were there for lots of drinks and some snacks. We were told we could sit at a high table in the bar area with server service. Our server Dale came over after a fairly reasonable amount of time. We ordered drinks and we ordered a bunch of Happy Hour specials. The happy hour specials were very specific on what kind of drink you could get and pair with the wing combo. We may have made him explain it it a few times. For that, we apologize. But nonetheless, that is Dale’s job and he could probably have been more patient. Especially when two members of our party came late and missed the explanations. Especially since he had taken our drink menu to give to another table and they had no “reference”. Dale… take a deep breath…. This is your chosen profession. The food was OK. The wings were tasty but one of the larger ones was undercooked. The beer was good. The mixed drinks were weak. After finishing our food, we requested another round of drinks. He asked us if we were going to order more food. We told him no. Dale told us he was not a cocktail server and brought us our check and told us we would have to order our drinks at the bar. We asked him if he just wanted to put in one more round so his tip would be bigger and he said no. We got the distinct impression that we should go. So instead of dropping another $100 on drinks, we vacated and ended up at LAKE PLACID PUB & BREWERY next to The Best Western. The bartenders were cool. Made great drinks, food was great. We felt welcome...
