I have never written a review, but I felt this needed to be said. I got married September 28, 2024. I knew I wanted to use Captains Quarters for tux rentals because 34 years ago my parents used them and had a great experience. With it still being the same owner, we were hoping for the same. Regardless of what Iâm about to say in this review, know that they rectified all ill fitting tuxes and our groomsmen each had a suit that somewhat fit for wedding day. All of our groomsmen were fitted within their timeline prior to the wedding, some coming from out of state. They were not properly measured and were asked what size they normally wear. Most didnât even get to try on a jacket due to limited availability in store. When I sat down with the person taking orders, I said I would like to see a black tux jacket and white dinner coat for my husband, and she told me getting both for a comparison would be no problem. Fast forward to Tuesday of wedding week - my husband and I went in to try his tux on. His pants were tight, which we had anticipated and werenât concerned about. But my stomach dropped when a white dinner coat was the only jacket in the bag. I explained to the gentleman helping us that I believed the jacket was supposed to be black (I would have been open to a white jacket had the one they sent been good looking, but it was not.) They then said that somewhere along the way I approved an ivory dinner jacket, not a black one. Okay, Iâm willing to own up to that mistake, however further details to come later in this story. Our groomsmen trickled in throughout the week and only 2 suits were properly fitting. Then, my dad went to pick his up. The shirt was so tight he couldnât button it and the salesman said âif you lost some weight it would fit.â Please. In what world do you talk to someone like that? Not to mention, my dad had lost weight since initially being fitted. Thursday of wedding week - my husband and I go in to pick up his tux again and fortunately all pieces fit, but the woman I initially ordered them with is in. I explained the events of earlier in the week and she reassured me that she remembered talking with me and remembered that I wanted both a black AND a white jacket to try. The other salesman made me feel like I had done something wrong and that I was inconveniencing him by requesting a black jacket. Again, I was open to a white jacket, not a forever 21 menâs blazer (genuinely what it looked like.) Iâve saved the best for last I think. One of our groomsmen went in to be fitted Friday of wedding week because he lives out of town. He is a really quiet guy, so imagine they thought he would be a safe person to tell. While trying on his tux they divulged to him that I was a bridezilla⊠A BRIDEZILLA. Seriously, in no way, shape, or form was I a bridezilla (though this review may make me seem like one.) In fact, my mother thought I would be one and was shocked at how laid back I was (trust me, she would say if I was being crazy.) If saying âI think the jacket is supposed to be blackâ and wanting my husbands tux to fit properly is being a bridezilla, then the gentlemen at Captains Quarters have not come across many women. In short, I was very hurt and disappointed by the language the men at Captains Quarters used throughout our tux rental process. The customer service is lacking, even while being a Traverse City staple. They must get better at measuring men for suits. However, like I said, the groomsmen had suits that fit them and because I wasnât a BRIDEZILLA thatâs all I...
Read moreWould not recommend renting wedding tuxes here. Our first consultation went really well, but everything from then on seemed to be wrong. Overall really bad attitudes and customer service in dealing with the local business.
Nearly all of our groomsmen were from out of town and called in their measurements which we realized could have presented problems. However, the guys who ended up getting the tuxes with the most incorrect sizing were the only ones who got measured at Captain's Quarters itself. Pants were 5-6 sizes too large.
The week before the wedding, we called to see how the pick-up process needed to work or if any of the groomsmen had opted for the shipping option that our consultant told us would be offered to out-of-town groomsmen. The woman on the phone was very rude in telling me that I was calling WAY too late to be asking questions like this. At the end of the day, they hadn't told any of our groomsmen that shipping beforehand to work out sizing issues was an option and we had to pick them all up the week of and hope they were ok the day of the wedding.
That same phone call, I asked to confirmed my suspenders that I had ordered for myself only and they said they didn't have any on order and we hadn't requested them. After telling me they couldn't do anything for me at this point besides give me a black pair (which wouldn't have matched the wedding at all), I looked on their website for the ones I needed and called them back with the color/order number. The girl on the phone said "Oh, must have missed them".
When the tuxes finally came in, I went in to get them. When I got there, I found out that none of them had been paid for because they didn't request payment from anyone when they called in sizes and when I asked if they wouldn't mind helping me give these guys a call for payment if I paid for them up front so I could take them, they said I would need to take care of it and have them all call in AGAIN and specifically request to pay.
I got the tuxes home and realized the completely incorrect tuxes came in for the Dad's in terms of color - we ordered dark gray and they were light gray matching all of the groomsmen. The woman who I called to tell this to said their warehouse made a mistake even though she also claimed to have checked them all in properly. At this point, I was very worried for my groomsmen coming into town that there were going to be issues with sizing as my brother and dad from in town tried everything on to realize nearly none of it fit (they were the ones measured at Captain's Quarters). Luckily, I had a lot of different (but some similar-sized) groomsmen because the day of the wedding we scrambled swapping pants, shirts, vests, coats until everyone had something on that at least buttoned and zipped.
Last, but not least, the tux shop called us they day after our wedding (we got married on a Sunday) to tell us that we hadn't returned our tuxes by our 11AM cutoff that day even though our wedding was an hour away and it was the morning after. When we told them they likely wouldn't have them until the next day, they were very rude about it but eventually agreed to give us an extra day.
Overall, there were very few good things to say about our experience here. Hope in the future they can provide better service as it's so important for local businesses to...
Read moreI wouldnât give any stars if that were possible. My fiancĂ© and I went in about a week ago. We were the only people in there after another gentleman left. At this point, the sales associate already looked annoyed that he had customers. My fiancĂ© told the sales associate that we were looking for a green suit for our wedding that is coming up and that he has not purchased a suit before and would love some help. The sales person immediately responded with âNope. Got nothing for ya. Better off looking online.â Didnât even bother to help with finding another solution. My fiancĂ© then stated that he would be interested in looking at a blue suit. The sales person didnât ask any questions as to what kind of blue, and immediately went towards navy grey suit jackets. Meanwhile, my fiancĂ© and I noticed several other types of blue suit jackets that were much closer to the color we wanted. The sales person asked my fiancĂ© for his size and once they figured that out the sales person again said âNope. I donât have anything for you.â My fiancĂ© asked if we could look through a catalog and possibly order one. The sales person then goes on to talk about how they are super low on stock and that he âalready has to put in an order for the guy who was in before us.â My fiancĂ© then asked if we were to order a suit online if they would be able to help alter it. The sales person said âProbably not. It depends on my mood.â At this point we could tell that he had absolutely no interest in helping us whatsoever and we say thank you and left the store. I have never been so disappointed. We wanted to support a local business, and instead we were met with with a business that had no interest in helping us. We ended up going to a chain business and weâre met with kindness and an eagerness to help us find the perfect suit. In conclusion, we will never support Captains Quarters from here on out and do not recommend...
