I have a lung disease and was wearing a mask over my nose I had it pulled out a tiny bit to allow some air in as I was having trouble getting air. My O2 was below 90 as I keep a pulse oximeter in my purse and O2 in my vehicle as I need it often. I had waited all week for my husband to be able to join us to go shopping here as the had his favorite brand of shirts. I walked to the woman’s side and found a few things for myself. I was asked if I was finding everything ok by a salesperson l, I said yes and asked if it was ok if I paid for everything on the men’s side she said of course. She didn’t say anything about my mask. I didn’t walk 10 steps and I was told by a different saleswoman that I needed to pull my mask over my nose. I said it is and that I have a lung disease and am having trouble breathing do to the altitude and she said I don’t care you’re going to have to fix it or leave. I was trying not to cry as I was extremely embarrassed. I thought I was doing everything right as I don’t want to get sick either. I called for husband to come pay and as he walked closer he heard how the woman was talking to me and said let’s just go. I was horrified! The entire store was staring at us. My poor son was scared he didn’t understand why we were being told to leave. We all sanitized our hands and had our masks on. It was humiliating. I’ve never been treated so poorly in my entire life. I was in a coma for 21 days and died 4 times from an unknown lung virus. This is the first time I’ve left my home since March 14th. I’ve taken every precaution to NOT get sick and would never put anyone else at risk. The only reason we are even here in Tahoe is we brought our son to a skate camp. I’ve stayed in our hotel until my until my husband was here and we were doing very limited outings. The gentleman that was trying to check me out was apologizing profusely as he didn’t see I was doing anything wrong. I’m appalled that ANY business would discriminate against the sick. I’m handicapped because of my lung capacity. Not only legally but morally. I’m still crying. My poor son just wants to go home. I hope people read this and choose to go to the next store down. The book store was amazing! I was having trouble breathing so I asked if I could buy the book in the window without going in and the manager asked the other patrons if they minded if I came in w/out a mask to look at other books. The all said ok. I didn’t ask for that. She went out of ther way to accommodate me and my condition. That’s what this world should be about. Please don’t spend your money here. They don’t care for the sick and weak.
UPDATE TO OWNER:
I’m sorry you have your story backwards. You and one of your staff were verbally assaulting us. My husband was trying to explain my lung disease to you. I was trying not to cry! I did cough but it was because I was choking trying to keep my tears back. I was more then 6 feet away from everyone and I didn’t pull my mask down under my nose. I pulled it OUT just trying to get air into my lungs. The fact that you wasted the police’s time filing a report is unbelievable. But, I know my rights as a disabled person and you and your staff 100% discriminated against me and my condition. I’ve been told I should have sued you in hopes you learn that it is not ok to belittle a disabled person. I didn’t want to waste any energy on that but now that I’ve read your response I will be contacting an attorney and go forward with the disability lawsuit. I saw in another review you were called “pure evil” and I truly believe it is true. You must be a miserable woman. I feel...
Read moreWe love this store! We will be visiting Tahoe next month and were saying we need to visit the store. My husband said hopefully it’s open, so I googled and read a couple of awful reviews of people wearing masks inappropriately or trying to come in with no mask. So sorry they felt inclined to leave negative reviews. They should be respectful in your store and have some common courtesy. You must feel vulnerable during these times having guests coming in and out of the store. Thank you for staying open and hope you can continue to operate safely, as long as everyone does their part.
The last time we were at your store, we had our two little ones with us and the ladies working were extremely kind to them. In fact, the customer service is SO amazing, that when my daughter yanked the ball off of my favorite snow hat, the woman there offered to stitch it back on. They also allowed us to leave our purchases there while we went to lunch. When we came back my hat had been repaired perfectly and when I went to pay they said it was on the house. You don’t see that kind of care and generosity at other stores. Thank you and we look forward to our next visit so my husband can get some of your high quality flannels and thermal shirts. I’m sure I’ll find...
Read moreI just had the most humiliating experience at Cabona’s!!! I have shopped there for 15+years and have always admired there originality and professionalism. However, I have a health problem, which I explained to the clerk, that would interfere with the wearing of a mask. She, the woman’s clothing associate, asked me to leave immediately and did not hesitate to say “my health problem did not matter to them”!! I am so upset and feel they/she are discriminating against people with health problems !! Not a good thing! I believe there are “8” bullet points, per the CDC, that would prohibit some from wearing or be required to follow the mask “guidelines “. Cabona’s has failed, in my opinion, to study up on these guidelines!!! I therefore will not bring my business to their establishment anymore! I will also share my horrific experience with all my friends and family that too have supported...
