Under 18 NOT WELCOME. Brought my 11 y.o here to exercise (she has been through the training program for youth) with me last tuesday. We used the dark, no-one-is-ever-in-it studio. In the yr I have been going here, only once has this room has been in use. It is a dedicated les miles room. One lady came in, we moved our stuff to the side and she worked out 10-15mins and moved on. I used the bikes, my child used yoga mats to stretch. A 50-60 y.o blonde woman (NOT desk staff!! Member services I believe) came and told us a class was beginning and we had to use another space. We did as requested, went to another place. I returned 10 mins later to see what class and If I wanted to attend. Not. One. Soul. In. That. Room. Photo attached to show. Was this class a 9 minute long session? Or is this Y not welcoming to all? If under 18 or whatever age are not welcome, please make this an official rule at downtown Y. Otherwise why are all not welcome? DESK STAFF are the best of ALL Ys! They always speak to me by name, especially the african...
Read moreLove this location as it’s a 2 minute walk from our apartment. In response to the review right before mine— the requirement to wear a mask is one of the many reasons I love this location. We’re in the middle of a global pandemic, and we know masks work to reduce the spread of the virus. Gripe for a minute because during the yoga class I was in downstairs, students were permitted to take their masks off during class? How is that different form people taking their masks off while lifting weights upstairs? It’s not. People are in even closer proximity to each other in an enclosed yoga room. 4 stars for that reason. Also, the yoga teacher was late and seemed VERY frazzled when she came in, and kind of like she didn’t want to be there. That was a little awkward, especially with her being a yoga teacher and all, but oh well, I...
Read moreI LOVE the Y, but because of the density of people in Downtown and surrounding areas this YMCA is crowded. Most people get off work 4-5 and because of 8pm close time everyone works out at the same time(no one wants to workout during dinner time. Sometimes it’s impossible to workout as all the machines get taken. None of my friends will join either because of the hours. If they even extended it until 10pm it would be a much more accessible gym as many people would realize they don’t HAVE to workout right after workout and can instead go after mealtime, but right now it’s just not practical. Downtown and surrounding areas are growing, the Y should and could...
