When I started working downtown, I wanted to become familiar with as many restaurants that I could. Unfortunately, I didn't explore as many as I would've liked but Cherry Street Kitchen still stands as one of my favorites. I've eaten here on three (or more) occasions and the overall experiences are consistently pleasing.
I first visited on April 28th and again on December 13th 2023, both around 1pm. With large glass windows and decals everywhere, it stands out among the few restaurants in Western downtown. You walk in to a modern yet quaint setting. There's plenty of walking space, a mix of seating styles, tall ceilings with exposed pipes and plenty of natural lighting. The host meets you at the counter and offers you the option to sit where you'd like. Each time I've visited the house was at least half full but the service is still consistent and considerate, whether a server or the bartender assists you. Generally, the space is pretty chill. Filled with downtown business casuals but simultaneously relaxed. Perhaps my favorite thing about CSK is their lunch menu. Either good lunch or good breakfast- soups, salads, sandwiches, pastries, etc. - you can't go wrong. I had Fred's Fried Chicken Sandwich with Fries (& a Moscow mule) on my first visit and a CSK House Salad the second time. The chicken sandwich was as good as any! The grilled brioche bun and the lightly-breaded, perfectly cooked chicken stands out. No complaints, highly recommended. The salad was robust with a variety of ingredients that will fill you up without a doubt. I've also had breakfast there and without specific recollection, I'm sure it was probably good. I still need to try the pastries at the front counter but I've resisted temptation thus far.
Overall, I truly enjoy CSK, whether for the ambiance, the service or the food that's offered. As much as I'd like for them to be open later, the shortened hours drive up the demand and I love to see it for this café-styled eatery. The location is separate from central downtown, and surely not located on Cherry Street, but worth a visit for a reliable,...
Read moreI came in on a Thursday morning around 11am. Was a bit bummed to realize I missed breakfast cause I woke up late at a nearby hotel. (I'm a flight attendant.) Since the place has a very charming atmosphere (and I was on foot), I decided to try the lunch and was very glad I did.
I ordered a sandwich that I think was called The Jam, which was basically a turkey and cheese sandwich with mixed greens and tomatoes on sourdough...but it had an intriguing twist. The cheese was herbed goat cheese and the sauce was blackberry jam (instead of mayo, which I would usually ask for). They also added grilled seasoned jalapenos which I had them put on the side "just in case it was too hot." It wasn't too hot at all and I ended up putting them all back in the sandwich. As for the greens, I'm always a little worried when restaurants put greens on a sandwich because they often taste like mud...but these ones didn't. These blended into the sandwich perfectly... In fact, they all blended in perfectly. If I were the poetic type, I might even call it a symphony of food in a sandwich...if I were poetic.
As for the side,I asked my adorable waitress (who was also the bartender) if she preferred the fries or the home made chips. She said the fries were her favorite, so I got those and they were fantastic. Nice and soft with a thin layer of crunch and a wonderful blend of seasonings. I did try them with a side of mayo (cause that's how I roll) and they were actually even better with mayo. The mayo added a moist creaminess that blended perfectly with the fries, even though the fries were perfect on their own.
As I was walking out, I noticed the staff around the kitchen just chilling and waiting for the lunch crowd that had slowly begun to trickle in. They obviously enjoy working there and we're having fun, which brought a smile to my face. I don't like hanging in restaurants where the staff looks tense and unhappy since that can add to an atmosphere as well.
All in all, I will be back to try other things. This place...
Read moreWe were inTulsa this weekend with another couple. We chose this breakfast place because of the reviews… We got there early enough to beat the crowds. We were seated promptly… our waitress was sweet and attentive , as she was newly employed here. We ordered, then we waited.. As more time went on, more patrons were seated… but most of them didn’t have food in front of them.. As the food began to be placed, ours did not appear … you naturally look toward the kitchen area. Some workers were just standing around. One woman was enjoying some sort of food back there as she was visible to anyone looking that direction.. Patrons that came in after us, finished their food and left, before we even saw our food.. 50 minutes after we ordered, our food arrived!!! Yay! 2 of us had biscuits and gravy… the biscuits were super salty (and I like salt) the gravy was ok at best. 2 of us had French toast…. Both said the bread tasted super old and stale. I almost never leave reviews, much less, negative ones. But this was just a negative experience to say the least.. We don’t dare send anything back, because who knows when we would be served again. Because of the great reviews, I’m assuming this was just a bad day… I just would think if a patron waits almost an hour to be served, a manager should be making the rounds to give some sort of explanation. The only thing we were told was by another waitress was that our order was more complicated than the others that were being served. Um, biscuits and gravy and french...
