Updated Review: After my first visit, the owner reached out, responded thoughtfully, and generously provided a $30 promo code to encourage me to give them another try, which I really appreciated.

On the second visit, we ordered a chai latte (6/10), vanilla latte (5/10), a chorizo burrito with bacon and crema added (6/10), and a simplistic taco with avocado mash and crema added (6/10). Wait time was about 25 minutes from ordering online to receiving the food.

Overall, the food was better than my first experience, but still not something I’d order again. The burrito still had cold cheese inside (though not ice cold this time), and the bacon was unappetizing, chewy with rubbery fat, so hard pass on that add-on.

While I genuinely appreciated the owner’s responsiveness and generosity, the food and coffee are just not something I’d return for.

Old Review: I ordered a burrito and waited 20 minutes for it to arrive. When it finally did, the cheese inside was still ice cold. It seemed like the cheese may have been frozen, and rather than properly thawing it, they tried to rush the process—likely hoping it would heat up during cooking. It didn’t.

I brought it to the manager’s attention. He offered to remake it, but I wasn’t about to wait another 20 minutes and risk getting another bad burrito. While they did issue a refund—as would be expected—there was no apology, no explanation, and no real attempt to make things right. Something like, “Come back another time and try a fresh one on us,” would have gone a long way.

Unfortunately, the burrito was so unappetizing, and the overall experience was disappointing enough that I won’t...

I was extremely excited to try this pizza. Especially on National Detroit Pizza Day. I arrived at 6:25 went inside and was greeted. I confirmed that they do not sell by the slice so I'm prepared to buy a whole pizza. I was then told they aren't taking any pickup orders. Because they were "slam" due to the promotion?? The website doesn't state there's a promotion. But anyways I said no worries as I'm leaving out someone else is coming in picking up an order. So I turn around and say well should I call in to place an order? They said "oh no you can't do that either they ordered before the cut- off time." Mind you the hours are 5pm-10pm. So what time was the cut off time?? I got a weird feeling when I walked in to begin with. NEVER AGAIN.

Updated: I've been participating in the National Days all June, so I was aware of what day it was, that's why I was there. This was my first time trying and hearing of this restaurant. I wouldn't go to social media to see what's going on. I'm going to GOOGLE to see reviews as well the website to see "promotions", which was not on the website. Hopefully one day I can return and hope to try the pizza. Thank you for your consideration...

We were thoroughly disappointed. We tried this place because of the great ratings and drove quite a ways to DC to pick it up as this is a Carryout only space with a table at the door to pick up. Also, I’ve never been to a pizza place with no sausage. We settled for pepperoni and meatballs. So little sauce that our pizza was very, very dry and the pepperoni was Burt. The Arancini was just alright at best as we have certainly had better. The Greek salad I didn’t understand, it was chopped beyond measure and swamped with sauce, with a big scoop of mashed potato and for $11 only about a two spoonful for the three of us. We added more lettuce. Worst $50 we’ve spent in a while. According to the reviews many love it, we did not and...

Located between Scarlet Oak and the liquor store, easy spot to pickup Detroit Style pizza done right! I've tried Emmy Squared a few times and it just doesn't measure up to Side Door. I did 1/2 black and blue and 1/2 pepperoni for $26 that had 8 glorious pieces. Black & Blue: Black truffle, shaved Yukon gold potato, gorgonzola, guanciale, chives, surrounded by Side Doors signature mozzarella crust, served with a side of our tomato sauce. *really unique combination and absolutely loved the guanciale which has a rich buttery porky flavor Pepperoni: All of the goodness of our cheese pizza plus copious amounts of crispy mini pepperoni. *pepperoni was super crispy, chewy and savory I'll be ordering their pizza frequently to bulk up for the winter.

Not gonna lie… I’m pretty disappointed, especially for the price. I’ve heard great things and was excited to try. Very basic. I was very disappointed that the cheese sticks and cheese pizza are the exact same thing with the exception of the sauce on the side or on top of the pizza. Case and point: they just baked a normal size cheese pizza, put sauce on half and cut the “cheese sticks” smaller (see pic). If I was to go again, I would try a different combo than all cheese. Honestly… Red Light is better in DC for Detroit Style pizza locally. Wise Guys and Emmy Squared (chain or not it’s better) for Navy Yard. Does have some outdoor picnic tables for those that want to get there food and eat there.

Side Door Pizza, if you're a fan of the Detroit-style variety, is absolute bliss. A simple pepperoni pizza is one of the most satisfying items you'll find anywhere in Navy Yard. They offer lunch specials and much more than just pizza, but the pies are what really stars here. I will say that I did venture out and try some of the more exotic offerings, like the chicken parm pizza, which wasn't quite as good. That may be due to the insanely high standards set by the pepperoni, though. Order ahead and give them a good 20 minutes if you're in the area.
