I started coming to this place during the pandemic. Like early 2020. Didn’t even realize they had been open more than 5 years as I didn’t really frequent navy yard until I got a job in the area. I love supporting small businesses. They have always stayed under market value which is hard for a small business to do. Their breakfast sandwiches are made fresh! Every time. Which you’re not going to get from any other coffee spot within a mile. Compass, Starbucks, Gregory. All microwaved. Their coffee is soooo good! I have always been an illy fan. And to top it off, I’m the summer when I want an iced coffee. They have a dulce de Leche iced latte. Never seen anyone serve that flavor since living in Argentina Year’s ago. Additionally. The owners know their regulars. I don’t come in enough for them to know me only when I’m wearing my red trainer sweatshirt do they recognize me as a trainer across the street but it doesn’t stop them from being nice to me. Order always comes out in less than 5 min no matter how busy they are. And at 9am on a week day they are BUSY. Still quick service. I’m like Max 8 min seriously. I’ve sat upstairs and worked. Lots of space. But not sure about their wifi. I see reviews saying they have it. If they offer it, it would be nice that they post the network and password. I used my Mifi I would come even more if I knew the wifi was strong still 5 stars tho. I don’t rate places on their ability to pay for me having free wifi everywhere I go that’s...
Read moreLot 38 represents the best that a neighborhood local eatery/cafe is. The owners are beyond friendly, always working the behind the counter brewing, taking orders and chatting with you. The food is awesome and significantly better tasting than the two chains close by (Starbucks and Bethesda Bagel). The coffee is awesome. But what really makes it special? While I hate to sound whimsical because I try not to be emotionally attached to places I do business at, I have to admit I feel a sense of joy when I order my weekend breakfast and coffee there. The owners address me by name, warmly engage me in polite conversation and without me asking or really giving them a reason to have in the past thrown in a free goodie into my order unbeknownst to me until I was back in my apartment to enjoy it. I recommend this place to tourists because the lines will be significantly shorter than Starbucks or Bethesda Bagel and you'll enjoy the quality of food. But overall I recommend this place to our neighborhood community because its genuinely a great place to go and shop at. You feel good from both the food and the joy. Thanks for being...
Read moreLot 38 Expresso Bar is a hidden gem in DC and my absolute favorite breakfast spot. I ate here almost daily for 3 years when I lived nearby, and now I make it a point to stop in whenever I'm in town.
Their vanilla latte is perfection - smooth and completely free of bitterness. The sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich on a soft, perfectly toasted bagel hits the spot every time with its ideal balance of ingredients.
