After at least 2 tries to find the boat and board rental place open so could take my daughter out on calm water to teach her to paddle, we decided to buy a small inflatable kayak ourselves. Since it was a new boat however and we didn't wanna find out it had leaks or defects in fast flowing water, we stopped by lake Lorraine to just pump it up, throw it in, check for leaks, then head to the river if all was well. As we were doing so a man came up claiming it's his property. Fair enough. I asked if it were ok if we just threw it in so we knew it was safe to go to river. His reply was " no sir, if you had an accident I'd be held legally responsible". Well, I doubt that. As I doubt an accident will happen during the 15 seconds it's gonna take me to check this thing out. So we packed the boat up and my daughter was so worried we weren't gonna get to test it out. Then, a couple in a Tahoe that had seen better days just as the man was trying to politely continue his holier than thou attitude towards us and he informed us that the man in Tahoe was the only person who could be on the lake and I could talk to him about what I wanted to do. So I did. His reply was " unfortunately this is a private lake," ( established already) " and the owners normally rent out watercraft to be on the lake". Okay? When? " So really you're gonna need to pay to be on the lake but the rental place is closed now". So there's boats on the beach, but it's a liability for me to check my boat for leaks. You let people on if they pay, but yet twice we've come during what I'd think are business hours and nothing. Apparently you have to make an appointment to rent a board or boat from them. No thanks, not paying money to jerks like this so I can show up to rent and have to feel I'm inconveniencing whoever comes out to time us on the water and yell at us for any perceived rule infraction or pay no attention at all and stare at a phone and tap their foot because we could be a minute late back to the beach. This entire area seems full of people who love doing anything possible to feel above another person. They wouldn't make it a day on...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLake Lorraine is one of my favorite places to walk my dog! I love how large the walk path is, and I do enjoy hearing the water against the wind, it reminds me of the ocean, which I took for granted when I lived by one for many years. Make sure to bring poop bags if you're walking your pet, and I have only noticed one trash container on the whole walk, so plan the walk accordingly. There is a senior living site near the lake. I've said hello to a few of the residents on my walks, really kind folks. The nearby Chick N Max, Pillar Dental, and Silverstar Car Wash are businesses I frequent when in the area. Check it...

All stores here need chairs like Home Goods for the men who visit have a place to chill for a minute while your wife and kids look at rugs. Hob Lob, as the cool kids call it, used to be my nightmare, but I do know what sections have entertaining things to look at. Five below, grab a snack. DSW, large place to buy shoes. And the real fancy place on the north end to look at things someone else can afford. No swimming. Chicken Max...
