In preparation for an upcoming vacation, I decided to try this salon and booked a Gel-X nail appointment for a Sunday. I intentionally chose the weekend so I wouldn’t have to juggle work during an already busy week.

The morning of my appointment, I received a message from Liz saying she needed to reschedule. While this was frustrating and a major inconvenience (as my day had been planned around the appointment), I didn’t make a fuss. I adjusted my schedule and accepted a weekday time, even though it was during work hours, because I had limited options and few places offer Gel-X services.

On the day of the rescheduled appointment, a work presentation ran long. I received a message from Liz 20 minutes after the scheduled time asking where I was and reminding me of a 15-minute grace period. I had just wrapped up and let her know I was six minutes away—hoping it would still be okay. Her response? That I’d need to reschedule to stay on time for other clients.

"Wow. I gave you grace when you needed to cancel the morning of - on a weekend, when I had planned my day around that appointment. I specifically booked on a Sunday to avoid this exact type of conflict. You can’t extend the same grace I showed you? And now it’s suddenly about policy?”

Her reply: “It’s not about giving grace. I’m a single parent and have obligations and responsibilities, darling. Have a nice vacation.”

Excuse me… Darling? Are you serious.

For the record—I’m a single parent too. And while I absolutely understand having responsibilities, I also believe professionalism goes both ways. I upheld my commitment the first time. She didn’t. I rearranged my schedule without complaint. The same flexibility and courtesy were not extended to me.

Being met with a dismissive tone instead of accountability or empathy was incredibly disappointing. I expected better, and certainly more respect, especially given the situation originated from her need to reschedule. Please refund the deposit I had...
